This is still a major issue and a major crossing intersection park entrance. Almost daily I see a children trying to cross to the park where drivers clearly ignore the flashing lights resulting to slamming their brakes to prevent hitting a the child or any pedestrian. This section needs more signs to notify drivers it’s the law to yield to pedestrian, in addition a traffic light/cameras for the park entrance, and jcpd enforcement to make drivers aware this is a no tolerance zone. This section is an accident waiting to happen, hopefully JC can truly address the problem in this intersection before it’s too late. Thanks in advance.

Were the delineators replaced?

If they were, were the bigger issues of pedestrian safety addressed?

I want to make sure both issues get addressed, if they have not already.

What is going on???

They were destroyed and then put back in. And when they were put back in they were put too close together..... In other words , when a bus is letting off passengers at the intersection of harrison avenue and westside avenue .... The delineators were too close together so that people could easily pass the buses by entering into the opposing traffic lane..... I've been complaining about this and posting about it for over fourteen months easily..... It's always some story about their on order. And they're on back order and we have to wait and we're looking at it..... The reality is when a pedestrian is hit. The city has been on formal notice through this platform for months and months..... And last week end of january 2024 They were permanently removed while PSE&G did some work. .... So now there is completely no protection for the pedestrians in the cross walk..... I walk my dog all the time down. Harrison Avenue and tried to cross at that spot. And I have seen multiple situations where pedestrians almost got hit , including several times on my own... Even though the blinking yellow lights are there , people will pass the bus when heading towards communipaw while on west side avenue... They pull into the opposing traffic lane to pass the bus and disregard people in the cross. Walk who have no reason to look for them.

I as well have seen cars go around the busses and these posts into oncoming traffic on Westside. I child was almost hit by a car the da this happened. Please get these reinstalled ASAP and more need to installed towards Bentley to stop cars from going around them.

We will get them reinstalled as soon as possible, but we will also be looking into other solutions as well.

Most of the bollards, except for three found on the other side of the corner, are now missing due to the extensive delay in reinstalling them after PSEG removed them at the end of January 2024. My request was not a duplicate; it was a new issue because of PSEG’s laziness in reinstalling them after removing them when they completed their work. This crosswalk is no longer safe for even adults to cross, and at the very least, the bollards need to be reinstalled as soon as possible, just as they were before PSEG removed them about two weeks ago. This issue is completely separate from those reported in the past. New bollards were already installed, but PSEG removed them about two weeks ago! Now there is no safety at all in this crosswalk, and the reinstallation of these bollards should be a priority before a pedestrian actually gets hurts by a reckless driver!

We are working on this. We have to check on the repaving and re-scaping of West Side.

Currently our delineators are on back order. When they come in, i will check with the engineers as to the timing of the project to determine if we should replace the delineators before then.
