Please refer to the building dept. This is not a Housing Code issue. If the elevator is working and people feel it is unsafe, the elevator inspector from the building dept. would need to inspect.

They don't. That's why the elevator is unsafe for use. Even if they did know, they are clearly not doing anything about it. I'm trying to get this sent to the elevator inspector so it can get addressed.

It appears from the other ticket mentioned in the initial complaint that the library staff won't let folks use the lift when it pertains to strollers because it's unsafe and only meant for handicapped people. Which makes no sense. If it's unsafe for strollers it's unsafe for everyone. A lift should be used by anyone who needs help getting up stairs and it should be safe for everyone.

Exactly @Bekindrewind. In the other ticket, https://seeclickfix.com/issues/6410645, you'll see the elevator was not available for use by my pregnant wife + stroller with my son. This is the elevator opening to the street.

This is an extremely patronizing and unacceptable response. This is borderline discrimination as well. Handicap people don't all use a wheelchairs. Pregnant women are often put on heavy lifting restrictions. There are old folks who have trouble going up stairs but don't use a wheelchair. This is a handicap elevator. It should provide the means of transport for people who are unable to use stairs. If the elevator is claiming to be inoperable, it needs to be inspected and fixed. I'm not even the one who put in the complaint and I'm extremely disappointed that this is the city's response.

Completely agree with you, Bekindrewind! This is a completely misguided and unacceptable response from the city. People of all ages and abilities deserve to visit our library.

upon further investigation in this matter accommodations have been made with Library Security with the stroller issue. Access to a space by equipment that is not suited for a use other than what is intended creates a problem for the user and a liability for those to allow it.
