I TOTALLY AGREE! I am so glad you posted this. I drive this way every day in order to avoid the traffic and craziness of Grand Ave. My husband also rides his bike here a few times a week to commute. It's sort of shocking that the city allows this company to take over the public roadway like this. It's filthy, and it's only a matter of time before I get a flat tire form their trash. It's also really dangerous for cyclists - deathly dangerous, possibly. Also, at peak times, they have a line of trucks waiting to get in, blocking traffic, causing an unsafe situation as drivers cross into the other lane to pass the truck traffic. they should be forced to use an alternate entrance/exit on the other side, or at least build a receiving lane over the sidewalk area on their side of the street. If you're serious, you should write to traffic and parking and also LCI. They are tired of hearing from ME! hey, maybe a few of us should write letters to the owner of the company, nicely asking for some action. It may help for them to know that we are watching and that we care. that area should not be viewed as a dump, or it will only get worse. How about some beautification, City of NH?!

Thanks "It's time to organize". These are good suggestions. However, the matter here is more basic than beauty. It's about a company that's using the street built with our taxes as an extension of their dumping ground and as a loading dock, thus endangering us in the process. They should at least clean up the street (and possibly be fined).

The broken glass, metal, and chemicals come mostly from the junkers who break down their scrap in the street. If the New Haven Police, Zoning/ Public Health started fining these guys, the problem would resolve itself. If you pulled over in front of city hall and started hammering an industrial chiller into pieces, you'd probably be arrested. The same standard should apply here.

I bike this route at least 6 days a week, and it is usually the most dangerous part of my commute. Traffic calming measures have been REMOVED from that stretch of Chapel. Where did the speed bumps go?

This issue is posted several times. The Police Department is aware of this matter.
