  It's not a safe and the kids are scared to walk that way. I now have to give my niece a ride to school. This is the only route for her to take to get to school.

  Loose debris from this encampment is spreading along the walkway and on San Leandro St. I'd suspect that insects & rodents are now being invited due to this unsanitary walkway. I too, a taxpaying citizen, am going to emphasize ... it's only going to get more of a serious health problem for everyone. Please address for all concerned.

  I agree on this serious issue in the community especially since this walk way was just finished in order to allow people to walk to the bart station safely. Now this walkway is no longer a safe convenience way to get to Bart.

  Needs to be addressed, I've been changing my driving route because I'm not sure if a person or dog will be in the roadway when I come out the tunnel on San Leandro. It's going to end up becoming a whole line of tents along the railways and above the tunnel :( - Thank you

  The homeless encampment in the walk way to BART between 81 to 85 Ave in San Leandro St become bigger and bigger, the fence has been cut off, a lot of bikes are hanging on the fence, jay walking and flying balls in the busy traffic, litters everywhere. Tax payers like us feel like the City is inviting homeless to come here. Infected diseases could occur soon.

  I too, am so sick and tired of the homeless encampments there, it’s a nuisance, it’s very disgusting, nasty and horrific. When will the politicians in Oakland ever think about us. I’m guessing never.

  I am also concerned. I thought the pathway was done for pple to walk freely without fear. The path was not meant for encampment. Whoverr is concerned, that place need to be cleared of the encroachment of the homeless pple. They need to be evacuated to safe places and not our walking path

  I believe the City is scheduled to clear it out tomorrow or Wednesday. The people have already started moving further down to 105th Avenue. It's horrible.

  Does anyone know if the Oakland PD is ticketing the homeless encampment? Also, does Oakland have a clean-up team to clean up trash on 98th and san leandro? What is the mayor doing?

  The site has been partially addressed.
  There are still people camping out there.
  I drove by this morning about 7:05 and saw a man sticking a needle in his ankle or foot. Sad, but that further let’s me know that my children still can’t use that thoroughfare because other vicarious things are associated with homeless encampments, drug use, etc.

  This issue from wooden frames to tents will not solve the safe passage way ... perhaps city officials, including the mayor, would stroll that walkway w/their children and ask themselves is this safe for us taxpayers and residents too ...

  Driving again by this afternoon, the overall issue has still not been addressed. This encampment of tents has again expanded having litter on that stretch of San Leandro St ... those homeless in tents need a permanent location and many of us await city leaders to see for themselves that this location does not serve our community nor this homeless population.

  They encampment has still not been fully addressed. Structures were taken down but were put back up just days after the City dismantled some of it. He trash and debris is also still there. Did I miss something?

  The encampment has increased and so has the litter & debris & driving by this morning there's a basket ball net attached to one of the overhead BART supports ... and someone looking very healthy shooting baskets too ... maybe 3 pointers? Suppose a city official has yet to walk by and bring their children to experience? Seems if someone is very athletic to play basketball & with time on their hands, they'd be offered a volunteer opportunity to improve our city?

  Driving by this morning there are now again fabricated structures ... so "tent street" has returned to encampment of wood--metal--plywood(?) ... and the garbage can be seen piling and surely rodents & insects are to become additional residents ... so when will city leaders address this on-going/growing encampment that occupies the walkway to BART ... to take a walk?

  Wooden structures among other things are back up. I wonder if they’re waiting for BART to be affected before they address this issue. Like a fire from one of those structures that will ultimately compromisie the tracks above. Delaying many people’s commutes to and from work/home/school. It doesn’t seem like the city cares about the people that pay taxes. These are the people that need to use that thoroughfare for the purpose it was intended -to walk, not live on.

  Yes, structures have become permanent as tents are being replaced by wood, metal, and construction pieces ... and the number of homeless, trash, and fallout on to San Leandro Street is the elevation to being a hazard.

  Repeat: This encampment has grown and is bigger than just "UNION PACIFIC RAILWAY." Awhile back the city took down the wooden--construction pieces and allowed tents for then ... yet it's back and blocking the walkway to BART from 98th. Homeless at times drift into the streets (perhaps under the influence?) and their overflow trash has fallen on San Leandro St too. Reporting & reporting hasn't solved the issue of this encampment ... perhaps past time for responsible city officials to take a walk down the path (and see if they'd feel comfortable bringing their kids ... I bet not!). The warmer weather will invite insects and rodents to occupy to then become a large health hazard. This homeless encampment needs to be a high priority to remove entirely and to make this area safe for our children to use too. We taxpayers expect nothing less!

  This is a dangerous stretch of San Leandro St. I moved away from the area last year partly due to the fact I could not get to my house without being harassed or intimidated. These homeless houses have been torn down several times and recently a huge fire burned half of them down. The homeless people are still living inside the burned shacks.

  I have also had traffic problems there. cars stop to talk to the homeless in the street and block the whole intersection with no regard for anyone else. There is constantly trash we have to drive around. People already cut through red lights at that intersection, this just makes it worse.

  This issue to date, having not been fully addressed, has become a huge health concern. Now, with the probability of rodents also inhabiting and the likely hood of coronavirus, this no longer can just have us folks (who are residents here and taxpayers too) exposed ... this needs to be immediately cleared of all debris and those homeless relocated to a safe location asap!
