Email to County Commission:
I appreciate that you have done so much to help with the sad state of public transportation in the Tampa area. I am contacting you to see if there any plans for Hartline to extend service in the USF area, specifically for stops close to the VA clinics off 46th St. & Fowler. I dropped my son off there this morning on the way to work for a VA appointment, and he caught the bus back. I've never noticed before, but there are no stops close to the clinics. If you go on the Hartline website it gives a walk of 38 minutes to the closest bus stop-then if you need to go anywhere else you've got multiple bus changes- but that's another issue not specific to this route. At any rate, my son is young & strong , so the walk, while inconvenient, especially if it's raining, is not insurmountable for him. However, many of our veterans are elderly or have mobility issues and I would think some thought would have been given to how easy it would be to access such a common destination. Not everyone has a car or money for cabs or Uber. If this issue has not been discussed at transportation meetings I think it would be valuable to the county's veteran population to bring it to the table.

We are very appreciative of input from our patrons, particularly those that are so reliant on us for their mobility. We are very determined to explore and implement a variety of solutions for the Fowler/University Area as it has needs both locally and for the region as a whole. We are exploring some options for restoring services that were removed in previous years due to funding issues, however this location was not previously served so it would not be included in the 2020 restoration of services.
As we look to the future we hope to place additional services on Fowler Avenue that meet the needs of the residents and employees along the corridor. New service options are going to be explored in the short-term in 2020/2021 with longer-term needs evaluated later in those years. We hope to get input from you and to come up with solutions that meet your needs.
For that specific location at Fowler and 46th Street, it appears that the information is not reflective of the two closest routes that are approximately a half mile from the intersection either to the east (Route 48) or to the west (Route 5 which appears to have been the best option from Fowler/40th street to the VA). We would gladly work with you to make sure that you have the best information possible to access the services we do operate. We offer travel training and would be more than happy to set up some time to review our services to make sure we are getting our customers to the appropriate bus stops as quickly and safely as possible using HART.
We hope you continue to push us to provide you with better service as we continue to get our customers to places that enhance their lives.
Warm regards,
