Agree it’s a major issue on SK.

Solutions:

x2 pickups per week would be ideal if not, a centralized drop off location for trash.

Since we only have ONE trash pickup “Wednesday” on Siesta Key and most trash is on Saturdays.. Can we PLEASE get a roll-off dumpster centrally stationed, as a drop off location for trash? Haul roll off up Monday mornings - This way, it’s not sitting around till Wednesday.

Eliminate trash = eliminates rats/flies/crows.
- There is also a benefit to shorebirds… Crows feed on shorebirds, instead they will feed out of roll-off versus beach access.. Like a dinner bell.
- Over-flowing cans is a big complaint. Hurts OUR SK reputation and unfair to residences and even arriving guests to have trash cans full of maggots and rats - Flies are out of control last yr.

This approach is highly effective and done pretty much on every island outside the US.

Good Ideas and input. Glad someone can give some ideas and not just complain about things but give ideas to make changes. Actually WM provides doorside pickup for only $100 per year and that might help everyone.

Is that only offered for residences that are elderly and handicap or anyone can pay for that service? Door pickup is nice because it hides the trash. Issues i'm also seeing are the rats and flies getting out of control.

Yes, that is for anyone. Very inexpensive and if the county wanted to make an effort to help control and make this type of situation good for everyone, they would just have rentals and/or residences that do not do a good job with their garbage mandated to take advantage of it. It's super cheap and an easy fix.

Was there a solution implemented for the bigger SK one-day-week trash pickup issue?

Mike, I’m meeting with someone Tuesday to discuss that very thing. Hopefully next step we can get the county involved and do some sort of picked up on Saturdays or Sunday, or a dumpster that could be emptied on Monday etc. I’ll keep you updated
