This issue has been reported to Tukwila Police Dept. I just spoke with an officer who said the Police are doing everything possible to remedy the situation

I have very little issue with it. They aren't just some group of homeless people. They have rules and regulations in order to stay there, an application process, and certain people not allowed. I encourage you to check the faqs.

No Land Use sign was posted for zoning changes. Area is being changed from a church to a very high density living are for over 50 people.

Local businesses where not notified so they can hire additional security.

This is a big problem talk to local business who have increase theft and individuals doing d-r-u-g-s and drinking. The cannot do this stuff at the camp so the do it in our neighborhood.

Tent City 3 (TC3), is a self-managed, democratic, clean and sober group of roughly 50 individuals, that will be temporarily residing in Tukwila at the Riverton Park United Methodist Church September 7 - December 7. TC3 has been at the Riverton Park United Methodist Church several times. They adhere to a strict code of sobriety, non-violent behavior and require community participation (like camp security and litter patrol). TC3 is self-contained with sleeping quarters, food prep and hygiene areas. They provide 24/7 security within their community and participate in daily litter cleanup within a few blocks of their temporary home base.

The state has authorized religious organization to host temporary encampments and limits local city’s ability to regulate these encampments. The City of Tukwila in partnership with Riverton Park United Methodist Church and TC3 residents host a logistics meeting that includes staff from many departments including Police, Fire, Community Development, Public Works and Human Services prior to campers moving in. This is to ensure all safety and emergency protocols are properly established. This meeting also allows all partners to share concerns, expectations and consequences if issues do arise. TC3 has had many successful visits in Tukwila in years past, and we expect the same from this upcoming visit.

To Mrsnirvana13- They do not have the right to live wherever they want. There is such a thing as payment on the property and land taxes. By the way, they have neither of them. They may have rights but they ain't got the money. They are a group of homeless people if they're traveling around living under a tent. You may not care about the welfare of this city,but there are plenty of us who do. Stop being a sap and feeling sorry for this bunch who brought it all upon themselves.

Are you going to allow all encampments to follow suit? Is this city becoming a haven for these heathenist? Why don't we just open our front doors and let them rob us blind. Eventually that is what is going to happen. I'm not paying my taxes for this kind of crap!

The city needs to reach out to the business and family’s who are directly affected by this. It’s not a good story when you here the stories from the last time the camp was here. I’ve talked with them and it is sad what they have to do and the dangers they have to put up with on a daily bases.

I spoke with a member of the library board in Tukwilla. They had no idea this was coming. They will address it at the next meeting. They will discuss public safety, addition security and computer use. Our students should have safe access to the library.

In response to Cheryl, I've actually done some research on these camps and seems like the cities where they move to were not very pleased with them. I understand they have they ruled INSIDE the camp and that's great, I am happy there is some kind of rules....but, what happens when they're outside of the confined space, say...all day? Do they behave themselves? Are they staying clean and sober? According to my research and reaching out to people as Paul mentioned that is NOT the case and on top of it they attract other smaller "campers" to set up their tents near by. Few people who have actually lived here during the last time the church hosted them actually contradict your statement for "success". Property crime had risen, drug use increased, drug dealers were present and there was garbage all over the place for blocks!! I wouldn't call that a success. We can disagree on what success means but there is no disagreement that there is nothing positive Tukwila or it's residents will get from this.

Corleone52 - Have you never been down on your luck? I understand they aren't paying taxes but believe it or not, most of them are working their tail off to get back on their feet. Maybe it is you that needs to have more compassion.

I frequently see very negative posts from you. What are you trying to do as a citizen to help this city instead of complain about everything you think the police aren't doing. Have you tried to even schedule a meeting with the mayor or do you just prefer to sit back and berate him?

I may not agree with everything the city does but I try to look at it from their point of view. They are stretched thin and it isn't always because they aren't putting their priorities in order.

Besides, who are you to decide which actions take priority? Homelessness or crime? They don't always go hand in hand.

It’s not being down on your luck it’s a learned behavior problem I’m concerned about. You will get more bad behavior if you allow it. Just watch the crime go up. Car break in, begging and needles will now become commonplace now.

I have seen many dark times in my 67 years of life. But I was able to pull myself up and quit drugs,drinking, smoking and many other vices.And my attitude is this: If I can do it, why can't they? You are just making excuses for them and providing them with a scapegoat. There are no excuses. Even the Police and Sound Mental Health has told me time and again that they won't accept the help that is offered them. Why not? Self pride or just plain foolishness. Don't talk to me about being down and out. I've been there and back many times. But I succeeded and beat it. And Paul is right about learned behavior. It has to be unlearned and that's what I did.

They better double the police patrol if the city wants to avoid any protest and demonstrations. Having these people around is going to cause a lot of discomfort. The Police better ready themselves. It's not going to be as easy as they think.

I believe the Mayor and city Council don't really care what happens to this city anymore. Most of the city officials and the mayor have lost my support including any votes. Say goodbye to Tukwila, as we know it.

Why is this situation closed? It has not been resolved in even the slightest way. School started today and this is an extreme safety issue for children. Maybe Tukwila School District would be better suited to handle this situation since the city just wants to dismiss it and close it like it doesn’t matter.

ALSO- my comments have not yet been cleared to post. It was a very long comment and I would like the people of this community to see it. I didn’t write for it to be hidden.

Did it contain vulgarity? Did you criticize them too much? They are very sensitive,especially toward the homeless. They're helping them take over the city. It's a game and a ploy for the Mayors re-election. The only way he can collect votes.

Would someone just create a new issue about the homeless camp opening next week.

Tukwila should get a handle on the homeless problem that exists, especially around the parks, before choosing to bring in more homeless people

Remember Election Day and consider who you want to lead this city! Vote for the person who won't bring it down and give it to a bunch of heathens. We need someone with cajones to guide the city and stand up to its controversies. Not someone who will lay down on the tracks and let the train roll over them.

Several council members are up for election in nov. We need some need people on council, not the status quo. Everyone needs to go to a council meeting and voice their concerns / displeasure at what is happening in this city. Church by the side of the road hosted a homeless camp several years ago and had issues and opted to not host again...there is also a statistic that a certain percentage of folks from camp remain behind in the community when the moves on.

Are they really going to listen to me if I express my dislikes about the homeless? I don't think so. They don't care about anything , but making a name for themselves. If Joe D. were still on the council, I believe he would have something to say about it. It's council members like him that we need. If I had all the proper credentials and education, I would definitely throw my hat in the ring.

Haven't posted on here in awhile, I'm glad to see this issue is still relevant. Ever since my 2 replies were denied to be posted and contained no HATEFUL, RACIAL, VULGAR, DEFAMATORY ETC...content I gave up wasting my time writing for no reason. You make an app for people to report and be heard yet you deny content to be posted because you (whoever you are) deem it to be in appropriate? Who is this Mr/Ms righteous? Seems like the only way to get through on here is to post nice and sweet comments and be all loving and accepting no matter the harm it causes you. I READ ALL THE POSTS AND COMMENTS ON EVERY ISSUE DAILY!!!! and I haven't seen minimal if any offensive things. People are just fed up with the inability and unwillingness of our "leaders" to do anything to put the residents of this city first like it should be. We're fed up with the homeless around Tukwila and abandoned cars and rv campers everywhere, increased crime and trash and we should be able to voice our displeasure without being "blocked by rejections". I've personally been dealing with these "homeless" for a long time and it affected me and is affecting me in my daily life and when I call the police they roll their eyes and tell me "oh, were stretched thin we don't have enough officers" WHILE you're bringing a whole HOMELESS CAMP here at the same time!!!!!!! That's insane don't you think? Do you guys not have eyes to see for yourself? Do you not drive to work daily?
