Closing this doesn't make it go away. This is not an out of sight out of mind proposition. At least of of the residents in this encampment was offered permanent housing in Oakland yet refused cause they want to live alfresco in Alameda. Please reopen. Thanks!

These homeless people are trying to gain access to the buildings including the preschool at night. Please have them vacate the area. There are children playing outside. A few years ago. some of them broke into the Preschool and there was over 25k in damage caused to the preschool.

We work right behind this area and hear the children in the pre-school and fear for their safety. One BBQ was removed, did they remove the other cooking apparatus that we JUST NOW saw? The whole area is so overgrown, so dry, so brittle, that these open fires are simply an invitation to disaster. The pre-school is RIGHT THERE and any fire that these encampments start will thoroughly engulf the pre-school in seconds, the building next to the pre-school, go up the ravine and hit our office. Seriously, we are allowing these people who choose to live outdoors to endanger the lives of innocent children who only want a safe place to go while their parents work? Please, please, please, remove these two encampments, and cut back the dried up foliage to abate the obvious and serious fire hazard. Please protect the children and protect us!

Contact AFD to have the BBQ removed. The property is owned by Southern Pacific whose HQ is in the Midwest.

AFD has been trying for months to find the proper number/person at SP to deal with the growth. No luck. Chief Waggener is on this case.

Agreed this is an accident waiting to happen. Like most bureaucracies nothing gets done until something bad sadly happens.

APD 🚔 has its hands tied by the 9th Circuit and their Boise Decision. Don't bother with the Mayor as she will play politics.

Yesterday many of them came onto the Marina Village property, we saw them around 10 am, used a local business' barbecue and outdoor bench and seating area, and who knows what else. I don't suppose they asked that business if they could do that? Use private property?

hey guys just so you know this actually isnt even new and we've been reporting this same encampment to the police almost every day for like 2 years now. they literally couldn't care less.

im not surprised that the city is still refusing to do anything about this. this is in direct connection to the city-sanctioned homeless encampment and toxic waste dump at marina village that residents have been complaining fruitlessly to the city for the past 5 or so years now. check out my request here from six months ago that they're still ignoring.

the homeless nests and garbage piles in the photographs i took there have been there for at least half a year now. they're literally rotting and attracting carrion feeders, rodents and insects to the area. its also still crawling with homeless that are high on every .d.ru.g. you could imagine. city couldn't care less. no wonder the whole area is turning into a giant dump. they want to turn alameda into oakland #2

i promise you folks this will never be fixed if we dont fix our city government first. i hate to bring this bad news to you guys because i really feel your frustration (trust me, it angers me a lot too that this is happening) but I pretty much guarantee that the city will not do jack about this unless we all revolt, impeach the mayor, impeach the police chief and appoint completely new city officials from scratch who actually live in our communities and care about them to govern our city. right now our city's police force is headed by a corrupt d-bag named paul rolleri who doesn't even live in alameda and actually owns a 4 bedroom luxury estate in danville paid for with your tax dollars (He makes 350k a year in salary and benefits paid for by alameda taxpayers) and doesnt care about our community at all because neither him nor his family live here. he lives in a very affluent, private-security patrolled suburb far away in the east bay hills where he will literally never ever have to see garbage or homeless in his life. his kids will never have to deal with any of the stuff our kids will here in alameda. ever in their lives. they will grow up in a sheltered rich community while the rest of us suffer for his sake. i promise you nothing will change unless we get rid of him and the mayor. he thinks all these encampments are victimless crimes and doesn't want his officers touching these homeless. make no mistake, the chief is just as complicit in this as the rest of the corrupt swamp that is our city government. the city council and the mayor are all in this together with paul rolleri. they all want to turn alameda into another oakland, i promise you what im saying is true and they will probably censor this comment for stating too much truth.

APD will not do ANYTHING to resolve this problem I PROMISE you. They DO NOT CARE the chief of police himself thinks these homeless should have every right to destroy Alameda he doesnt even live here and doesnt care about our community. HE doesnt want his officers touching them at all.

And just like I said the city is continuing to refuse to do anything about this. Amazing how accurate everything I ever say about this city is

It is not illegal to be homeless. They cannot be asked to leave if they are on City space and there is no alternative housing or shelter that can be offered for them to move. This is the law, called Boise decision, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in January 2020. If they are occupying a space that is privately-owned, owner can ask them to move. If they refuse, call APD, as this is trespassing. If an illegal activity, emergency, or someone is in imminent danger, report to APD. Outreach is aware of this site and visits the encampment regularly to offer services and connect individuals to resources.
