Is this really happening on Cushing St and is it necessary?

I actually wish the Town would do this. Commute traffic backs up as one or two cars stay to the right, trying to turn left onto Belmont. As a resident of Thingvalla Ave, this makes getting home from Cushing via the various one-ways a pain, and certainly contributes to the frequent run of wrong-way cars on my street.

I don't think it's a bad idea to have turn lanes but it should go through the proper assessment at the city and be striped properly, not this way.

To Christopher and Acar's point, it might not be a terrible idea, but if everyone painted their own traffic pattern onto the street the city would be a mess. Also if you want an extra lane of traffic on Cushing street as these people painted on, you have to remove more parking to make space for it. Again, not a terrible idea, but without a proper traffic assessment and work order from the city this is just graffiti. Also a heads up that there is a school on this street so the city might be trying to slow traffic intentionally.

Painting your own traffic controls is unacceptable. Should one go as far as install a traffic light?
If the idea makes sense - and it does, as already been mentioned - it should go through the proper vetting channels and either get striped or the city should respond with good reasons for not doing so. If the city is failing to respond, then this is only going to escalate.
