Description
We’re having a resurgence of people blasting through the Drexel/Emerson stop signs with unbelievable recklessness. With school back in session and the large influx of new young families into Lenox Place, it’s going to result in something horrible. Our daughter can’t cross the street in front of our own house because people are running the intersection constantly.
- The “Stop Ahead” sign leading up to the intersection is completely engulfed in a group of trees. There is no way a driver can see it. It needs to be moved further north.
- The stop sign facing south on Drexel at Emerson is twisted and bent away from the street. It needs to be replaced. The “Stop Ahead” sign facing south is fine.
- Rumble strips need to be installed leading up to the stop signs in both directions on Drexel Avenue. Painting stop sign warnings all over the street will be expensive (and probably ignored). Rumble strips get attention, even when a driver is glued to their cell phone. There's an intersection near the beltline that had people constantly running a stop sign. Rumble strips brought the violations to zero. They’re cheap, easy to install, and they work.
- Repaint the existing white lines at the stop sign with fresh reflective paint
My immediate neighbors and I are sick of this. We’ve all had too many close calls from people (some of whom live in the neighborhood) running the intersection. I see a near miss almost every day. We've been asking for this since the beginning of the year. The cost of these improvements will pale in comparison to an accident, especially if a child is involved. The city needs to fix this NOW before someone gets killed.
