Description
Hello,
I am writing in regards to the sidewalks up Commercial Street from Ross Elementary School. Since Ross is an all walking school I am shocked at the conditions of the sidewalks. I live on John Paul Circle and there aren't even sidewalks on that side of Commercial and the school is on that side of the street! When I walk my child to school (with my toddler in a stroller), we either have to wing it on the John Paul/Ross side of Commercial with no side walk, or cross a very busy street to get to the sidewalk on the opposite side. Not a huge issue until my child walks to school on her own. The condition of the sidewalk on the other side of commercial is terrible though. It is very difficult to push a stroller or even walk side-by-side because it is narrow, bumpy/broken and blocked by telephone poles and street signs in areas. Not to mention how impassable it is on trash day. I have no idea what we will do during the winter months with snow.
Since Ross is a WALKING school, I am requesting the city put in new side walks on both sides so that we may walk safely to school. Side note: a few kids in that area have recently started kindergarten and there are several more little children who will be starting in the next few years. I feel this is a necessity.
Thank you for your time!

A decision to add another sidewalk would have to be prioritized in a sidewalk master plan, which has not yet been commissioned.

Also the stretch of commercial street from Ross school to Quincy border was paved less than 2 years ago and it is in bad shape due to quality issues and national grid replacing gas lines few months after the road was paved. Are there plans to do final paving on this road so the stretch can finally be complete?
Thanks

The new sidewalk will be ADA compliant.

Again, with a walking school a short distance up the road there needs to be a side walk on BOTH sides of the street. The safety of our kids needs to be addressed!
Thank you!
