Agree 100% with this request. Merge signage south of Dexter is needed. Even adding signage is an inadequate solution. It is simply too short of a merge area to work smoothly. In the merge area there is the Dexter/Maple intersection, AATA bus stop, Aldi driveway, 3 residence driveways, and Carbeck/Maple intersection.

Related is that several street lights are out at maple/dexter intersection. Will do separate fixit.

Why not make the rightmost northbound lane a right-turn-only lane. Then cars would have half a mile while approaching Dexter to merge..

Wait, what are you trying to accomplish... not being "cut-off"? How about looking at it as it's designed; as a *merge*? I'm not against a sign warning people but if you're trying to discourage people from being in the right lane after the intersection, I don't think you understand how the traffic is designed to flow. The goal is to get as many people in *both lanes* thru the light and then zipper-merge together. It's not that bad there, actually.

Thanks for bringing this up. I agree that the lane ending should have more signage, and that It's too quick. It's easy to be sarcastic (as I read your message, Babs) but being "cut off" in this situation is not just inconvenient, it's dangerous.

Thanks Everg, for commenting but I wasn't being sarcastic. No one should be getting "cut-off". It's supposed to function as a "Zipper Merge" after the intersection and part of its purpose is to slow people down. It's doing what it should and is much less dangerous than people going 50 down Maple as they were before.

People are currently getting cut off because there is not adequate advance notice of the right lane disappearing. Drivers who are not familiar with the area or did not move to the left lane sooner are doing it at the very last minute, causing those who have already merged to need to brake suddenly. This causes a traffic back-up in the Dexter/Maple intersection, because drivers who see a green light there think it is time for them to accelerate, when in fact they cannot accelerate because they must wait for the right lane to merge. And since there is no signage south of Dexter telling drivers to merge left, drivers continue to use the right lane all the way until they are smack in the middle of the lane reduction area, leaving drivers in the left lane--who did pay attention and plan ahead--stuck waiting for the right lane to clear out.

Sounds like the drivers in the left lane need the education.

Citizen, thanks for the clear description of the issue. Babs, I'm sorry to have mistaken your comments as sarcastic, but I was referring to the danger of having to merge too quickly, not the inconvenience of being "cut off". Does anyone have any info/response from the City?

Would love the City to give out tickets here for people who do not allow merging into the left lane. I've asked for that in the past and gotten no response so good luck. These types of issues just sit open.

I'm puzzled as to why Babs thinks she is the expert on all things related to the car lane reduction on North Maple. This site is for residents to report to the city on legitimate concerns they wish to have addressed. Babs treats the site as the M-Live comments and issues a smack down to every comment she disagrees with.

It sounds like the people that have a problem with the way it is are frequent users. They should know ( and I am sure they do ) what is coming. They just do not like the idea of being one car further back. So be prepared to let someone it the right lane get into the remaining lane. Drivers using this for the first time might have a beef, but not frequent users. I drive this multiple times a day. And if the right lane was for turning right only cars would be backed up to Jackson rd more than they are now.
