Hi Nil, thanks for response for the useful number to call. I was under the impression this app was for reporting issues, not necessarily in the moment they happen. I frequently see this issue take place, and thought that adding a photo of an example would be useful. If I hadn’t added the photo, would your response to different?
Thank you for your care and concern. Yes, accessBurlingame is for reporting issues. Ideally, the reported issues are fixable. In this case, the Police Department cannot retroactively issue citations to illegally parked cars.
I would be happy to meet with you in person or by phone to hear your concerns and identify the best steps to ensure your suggestions are vetted and studied, particularly ideas you might have for keeping cars out of bikes lanes. Are you available to meet in person tomorrow? I will be in the office from 8:30-3:30. I can also meet by phone at 650-558-7229. Please let me know if this works for you.
Sincerely,
Nil Blackburn
Assistant to the City Manager
I think there’s an assumption being made that issuing a citation means a problem has been fixed. That is not the case in this type of traffic concern, where people illegally stopping and parking their cars in areas they should not happens incredibly frequently. Some would describe it as a “pattern”. Will enforcement help? Maybe (can’t help but notice the Burlingame PD car waiting in the car wash queue in that photo). What will solve the problem? A street design that physically prevents people from stopping and parking where they shouldn’t.
And in regards to the canned “attend BPAC” response: Ive been attending BPAC meetings since last April. I watch all city hall meetings and TPSC meetings. I’ve met with not only the Vice Mayor but also Syed and Lisa in person to not only voice concerns about traffic but also complaints about some of the staff I’ve interacted with. So no, thank you. We will not be meeting in person.
The City of Burlingame launched SeeClickFix under the name “accessBurlingame” in June 2015 to equip residents and visitors with a free, quick, convenient, and public method for submitting service requests to City staff. Service requests are typically issues or concerns that can be fixed or completed in a reasonable amount of time. Examples of typical service requests include requests to clean up graffiti and dirty streets, repair potholes, curbs, and gutters, or report broken signs and street lights.
Based upon review of this issue by the City Manager's Office, it has been determined that this issue has been sufficiently addressed and appropriately completed and closed.
Sometimes, however, the City’s solution or reply will be deemed unsatisfactory by users. Users may choose to reopen a request to express their frustrations, suggestions, and opinions. The City of Burlingame respects all opinions and points of view that are in alignment with its Comment Policy (https://www.burlingame.org/social_media_comment_policy/index.php).
In furtherance of its goal of promoting transparency and public discourse, the City will leave this service request open, but move it to the Public Forum section of this app, in order to allow users to post their comments. Please note however, that since the City has already deemed this issue closed, it will not be monitoring additional comments.
As a reminder, the City of Burlingame provides additional ways for users to share their opinions and recommendations including:
• Send a message to the City Council
• Attend a City Council meeting
• Volunteer as a City Commissioner
• Attend a Commission meeting related to your topic of choice
If anyone is here and has read the whole thread: don’t feel intimidated by the city’s tactics to steer the discussion away from the real problem towards a game of semantics and conveniently redefining what this app is intended to do. There are dozens of issues reported here under “traffic concerns” in which people post about ongoing and reoccurring issues, sometimes even with photos which do not have any time stamps. I have not seen another instance of a response from city staff where they inquired about the exact time the photo was taken, let alone an exact time the poster observed the issue they were describing. Keep posting about these issues. They are important and they affect not just quality of life for Burlingame residents, but also affect the likelihood of serious injuries and fatalities brought on by traffic violence.
This is still an ongoing issue. And the cars waiting in line for that wash are constantly blocking the bike lanes and pedestrian walkway all the time, especially when days that are nice n sunny out. It’s terribly unsafe.

Hello Madeline,
