There is already a court for this in Lake County called the Painesville Municipal court. I didn't even know Mentor had one. I suspect the only reason would be to generate revenue for Mentor since one already exists for the county. Sounds like a racket to me. When will it end? I was once had my license revoked in Mentor for forgetting to pay a $28 fine. I got no letter and no phone call. I had to find out after being pulled over (for no reason). They impounded my car and hauled me to jail. I had to pay $300 for bail, $300 to get my car which had everything in it stolen, and $2500 to have my license reinstated. Yes I can believe the municipal court is a racket. Thanks for posting!

28 dollars for parking judge. That is not criminal. No courtesy call and no letter is. You tell me to grow a pair after you have been snipped lol. People need to stop being afraid and stand up.

LOL! I can't believe I saw this! I am going to that court soon for this very thing! The company after me had no proof at all! I was told there would be court fees. I said but I don't owe this company anything and the judge wants me to prove them wrong. How can I? I asked the company's attorney for the proof and they did not have it. I asked the judge to dismiss the case and she did not. Instead I have to take another day off of work to go back. Its crazy!
I wonder how many people just don't show up for something so ridiculous. Will the company win by default?

Thank you for the response DJ. It is unfortunate that common sense doesn't come into play there. I don't think citizens should be burdened with false allegations. Hopefully in the future these cases will be stopped before they start.
Bob I had a similar situation to yours where there was no proof but I had to go back anyway. It is a waste of my time to try and prove my innocence in response to a false claim. If the clerk could somehow screen for proof I would feel better. Thanks all for interesting posts.

if you have just realized court is a "racket" you have been asleep at the wheel !! its nothing but a money grab from the taxpayers to fund the budget over a spend happy bureaucracy.

It is a Democratic right that citizens be able to file a lawsuit for whatever reason they feel they need to. While a tort may seem frivilous to some, it is not to the citizen filing it. I, for one, would not want to give up that right, no matter who thinks it frivilous. If the plaintif can not produce sufficiant evidence to win, then they loose. The defendant can also present evidence in a case brough against them, and/or move to dismiss the case due to insufficiant evidence. It's not rocket science.

It works the way it is designed. Counter sue if you must.
