Thank you for submitting this issue. We will follow up with the NJDOT on the status of establishing a protected left turn signal at this intersection.

This exact request has been made many MANY times over the past two or more years. We are waiting to see if the report that there is some sort of ongoing "Traffic Study" of the area has any truth. Only the DOT officials have any ability to answer these questions. Look up who they are on NJ.gov and contact them.

My office has been coordinating with State Senator Brian Stack since last year regarding the concerns about this intersection, specifically the need for a left turn signal at the intersection. The traffic study was completed earlier this year and the DOT is currently developing an action plan to present to city officials by the end of the year. We will continue to push for implementation of these needed changes in a timely manner.

What is the update? It is still a very big issue that has not been resolved yet. It backs up traffic and can cause an accident.

I signed up for seeclickfix just to report this issue after turning left here for the first time. I witnessed exactly what the original poster described. The first car in line sped out and turned left immediately when the light turned green (OK fine, this is relatively normal). But the 4th car in line edged out into oncoming traffic, forcing oncoming traffic to stop (including a tractor trailer) and passed others waiting to turn left. This intersection desperately needs a left turn arrow.

Please provide an update on DOT's action plan.

This issue has been in play since at least 2017, and that any sort of "study" was done is clearly in question. It does not seem possible that any agency "studied" this and determined nothing needed to be done. The intersection is constantly littered with material from frequent accidents. Believe what your eyes tell you, and what your common sense tells you as you try to navigate this turn.
It needs a protected Left Turn signal.

We do try to follow up when and where possible, but with limited time and resources, follow up with the agency directly in charge of rectifying/modifying the roadway will yield the fastest results.

With all due Respect..an issue is CLOSED when it is RESOLVED. And this one is NOT. This report was filed in October of 2019 and nothing has been done to change this dangerous intersection since then. Many accidents have occurred there since that time. They all could have been avoided if the DOT had taken action. The reason we bother to write in this forum is that citizens expect those in charge to DO something about these issues. Not give up or pass the buck. But that is exactly what has happened here. We have been very patient, but I am very disappointed here. I will consider it Closed when I see some sort of remedial action taken at this intersection. How much longer should we have to wait? Or are we waiting for someone to die?

This forum is for requests that can be directly fixed and resolved by the City. There is no passing the buck if the agency you are contacting has no ability to resolve the issue. The maximum we can do is pass on your request to the very agency that does have direct control and authority. We passed on the message. In the meantime, there are many requests for pedestrian and traffic safety issues on our City streets and with limited personnel and resources, the priority attention goes to the issues we can and will resolve. The City answers to the County and State, not the other way around. I was brought on to help with the back log of issues and while the City would like to do everything possible to resolve this issue, the State remains the only authority that can initiate and then resolve this issue. The City will do everything possible to work with the State in helping make this intersection, but they are the only authority that is responsible and can take action. We have reported this to them and tried hard to follow up, but we cannot resolve an issue we have no control over.
