we could lobby for laws that would make a bicycle a vehicle- oh wait those exist- too bad the pollize don't recognize them just like the red light laws....

police should ticket cyclists who violate the law

While I get that it is against the law... having been hit behind by a car recently I have taken to the sidewalk. I have ridden on the sidewalk sometimes for most of my life and have never injured another person. I like to think that I ride responsibly while on the sidewalk. I think as long as people are careful... Who cares? Is it becoming a problem because it bothers you that people aren't following the rules or because there are actually injuries or property damage resulting? Go to a meditation class.

Maybe we should make State and Chapel friendlier to bikes. Both those streets are awful for riding.

N.H.P.D. is not an active police force. They are very much a reactive police force. Nothing happens till something happens. And the so called quality of life laws do not exist in New Haven.

I find State Street to much friendlier for biking from East Rock to downtown than Orange. A couple of potholes, but other than that, it's hard to beat.

Riding south on State Street is fine, much better route downtown than Orange St. However, riding north on State Street (between downtown and Trumbull) is pretty scarey, particularly during the p.m. rush hour when commuters are racing to the I-91 entrance near Jet Cleaners. Honestly, many drivers start accelerating to highway speed from their final light on State. For a bicyclist, it is very difficult and dangerous to move from the right lane exiting to I-91 to the center travel lane in this stretch of State. I have sympathy for those that choose to ride on the sidewalk as I've been cut off and honked at many times in this stretch of road.
