With Saskatoon getting a new bridge, how about Prince Albert getting a new bridge. Funny how they can make a decision in such a short period of time, and we have been labouring over this for decades.
prince albert is getting a new bridge. once the new st.louis bridge is complete, which was started on last year. I think they are in a little higher demand for a new bridge then prince albert.
The federal government had money allocated for a new bridge in PA as part of the stimulus package, but when the city dragged their feet on a location for the vridge the money went to Saskatoon for their south bridge project. Saskatoon seems to be able to make quick decissions when money is presented. PA, not so much.
the bridge in question in s'toon was LONG over due to be shut down and re build, this bidge was worse than St.louis and really should have been closed ten years ago.. with that said though i do believe Pa needs a SECOND bridge once the city can actually afford it (with less than Half of the population of Pa paying taxes its becomes hard to fix anything because for the ones that actually do pay taxes we dont want our part Raised to build this) but our Bridge right now is more than safe if people in this city would just learn how to drive. Its not the bridge right now that is the problem its the people who choise to drive unsafe and stupidly and bridge will become dangerous if people dont drive safely.!!
Sheena Rae, can you please explain how only half the population pays taxes? All home owners pay property taxes and renters may rent to the owner of the property, who in turn pays property taxes, which goes to the city? Please clarify your statement please!
We are going to get a new bridge, in time. Everyone that ownes or owns a rental home pays taxes!!! Therefore the city is getting the money from that. What my problem is, is that when the city does the repairs to this bridge it becomes a large traffic problem. I live on the north side of the bridge and during those times I hope and pray that nothing major happens because emergency vehicles cannot get across that bridge and that puts my family and others in danger.
There is no new bridge in the near future for P.A. we have La Cole Falls and a really nice new 17+ million dollar billboard for Canadian Tire. Maybe Wal-Mart will buy us a bridge but the City Council isnt going to help make it happen. The don't have an opinion unless their Manager gives it to them...its sad really.
There is no new bridge in the near future for P.A. but we do have LaCole Falls....oh, and a new soccer center for about 20% of the population to use...it does look really nice with the Canadian Tire logo on the front. We just need to get Wal-Mart to buy us a bridge I guess. Love the way those over payed clowns run our city...
It's easy for people to sit back and say that "City Council sux!". So why don't you people do something about it? Last election there were 3 candidates the won unopposed! Only 4 people ran for mayor! If you think you can do better then throw your hat in the ring!
I think we should put a ham sandwich on the ballot...my money is on the ham sandwich. it couldn't do any worse than the couple drunks we had before or the present council.
Actually, the province has allocated money to the city already and included a plan for a circle drive around the south side of the city. However, City Council and the Mayor are determined to keep this from happening as they are still with the "old School" mentality that it goes on 6th ave, or not at all.
Funny that the genious'at city hall haven't proposed the idea of a toll bridge. That way they can charge those who come through the city. The City Manager and some council have openly said that development outside of the city is detrimental to the growth of the city. This includes rural subdivisions, rural water utility, landfill use, and of course all of us from outside the city using the bridge that city tax payers pay for!?!
No kidding, they are paranoid that everyone will bypass the city and not stop and shop.
1) who travels from s'toon for example and stops here before going to the lake? most will bring what they need from home.
2) wouldn't this bypass take pressure from those traveling through and the big trucks which also don't stop in the city off of your prescious taxpayer roads?
3) looking at the trouble the city has with maintenance and snow clearing you would think they would like us to stay off their roads.
P.a is not as bad off as some people seem to think within the last three to four years the la cole falls dam was paid off !! and as the population of P.A. reaches 50,000 ( this is the population needed to build a circle drive), we are not their yet but close thats why their is so much talk about the bridge and circle drive to conect the airport to the cirty. Also they The air port plans to expand so they would not be able to build the bridge till the project has started which i belive starts this spring from what i read at www.citypa.com this is were you can learn about the citys plans for the city and what they are working on. Hope this helps some people that are still liveing in P.A.'s past and not looking at what p.a. has done in the last couple of years!!!
What I would like to know is how North Battleford managed to get a new bridge when their population is smaller than PA's, and they do not have the kind of traffic that we have going thru the city!! PA is considered the 'Gateway to the North', which it is. All the trucks hauling suppllies to Northern communities, the mines up North, Nipawin etc are all coming thru PA! With the rail roads being shut down and pulled up quite a few years back, this now means that everything is being trucked thru PA and across the bridge. Sheena Rae, this bridge is not unsafe because of the people driving on it, it is unsafe because of the semi's of chemicals, combines driving across, RTM houses being hauled across, along with semi's loaded with very large machinery being used in the mines. All of this along with all the regular trucks, cars, campers, motorhomes etc. When this bridge was built, I don't think anyone anticipated that it would have this kind of traffic on it, after all, alot of the chemicals, grain and machinery would have been transported on the railroad back then. All of these big trucks crossing the bridge is taking a toll on it. I can never remember so much maintenence needing to be be on this bridge as there has been in the last few years. So Yah!, I totally disagree with your comment that we don't need a second bridge. Obviously you have never tried to cross this bridge at lunch time, or at five o'clock when everyone gets off work, or at the start and end of a long weekend!! I must conclude by saying that the blasphemous unsyncronized traffic lights at 12th, 13th and 15th street contribute a great deal to the massive traffic congestions that I and numerous other people have witnessed routinely......

Does the ham sandwich have mayo or mustard? I want to know before I give it my vote.
Seriously, I don't think I'll see another bridge here in my lifetime. I wouldn't bet on it.
