Description
Hello -
With SW LRT construction closing or partial closures on Excelsior Blvd and/or Blake Rd, many drivers are cutting through the Presidents neighborhood. Many drivers are driving very fast on Belmore Lane and Maloney Drive to access Highway 169 at the Lincoln Drive ramps. Also, the Excelsior Blvd traffic detour and bus route go through the northwest corner of the Presidents neighborhood behind the SuperValu buildings.
My children walk to their bus stop at the intersection of Belmore Lane and Griffit St. Vehicles drive so fast on Belmore Lane as they are walking and waiting. I'm very concerned for their safety, particularly as it stays darker later into morning.
Can the cities of Edina and Hopkins add stop signs, patrols (increased presences), warning signs, and other measures to clam traffic and reduce vehicle speeds?
I realize that construction will proceed for a couple more years and I hope that some of the aforementioned measures can be implemented throughout construction. Please assist with getting ahead of this issue.
Thank you

Hello Neighbor,
The following message was sent to your listed email on October 15, 2019:
"Hello Neighbor,
My name is Nick Bauler and I am Edina’s Traffic Safety Coordinator. I have received your concern regarding increased traffic through the Presidents Neighborhood during the Southwest LRT project.
As there is no official detour informing vehicles to travel into Edina, I’m sure drivers have found alternate routes during the Excelsior Boulevard closure. Excelsior Blvd is expected to be reopened in mid-November. Stop signs will not be added as they are designed to control vehicle right-of-way.
The best form to calm temporary traffic patterns in this situation is to increase a police presence. I will be contacting the EPD regarding this request and hopefully they can deploy patrol officers if there are any available.
If you have further questions or concerns, feel free to contact me by email or phone.
Thanks,
Nick Bauler"
