Description

Yesterday around 4:30 pm near the Menaul parking lot in the foothills, I witnessed a white male around 50 years of age with a white Great Dane with black spots (off-leash) arguing with another man mountain biking with his daughter. It appeared that the man on the mountain bike was attempting to enlighten him about park rules, responsible pet ownership and what could happen by having his dog off-leash. The man on foot was hostile and very argumentative, aggressively walking towards the cyclist as if to start a physical confrontation. I believe if I had not been near witnessing this hostility, he would have attempted to physically assault the smaller male. There was no need for this man to act out this way. He needed to take ownership for his recklessness as a pet owner, respecting others who pay taxes and use the trail system also. I would highly recommend strategically placing a ranger at the Menaul trailhead around 4 to 4:30 from time to time, in hopes of sending this individual a clear warning that this kind of action will not be tolerated, and that he needs to keep his dog on-leash, before he physically assaults someone or his dog bites someone, creating a much larger issue.
