Description
Why are parking laws not enforced in front of residential properties in Alameda?
I've noticed that a lot of parking enforcement action happens near commercial properties, like the Peet's coffee on Webster, for example. However, I do not ever see enforcement in residential areas.
According to the city's municipal code, it is illegal for someone to block your driveway. My neighbor often parks his truck on the street with the rear end of his truck sticking into our driveway. I've called APD and reported it at least a dozen times out of the hundreds of times that he's done that. APD dispatchers assured me that an officer would be coming out and contacting me. Every single time, out of all of those dozen attempts to report it, nothing happened. An officer never came out, never contacted me, and my neighbor was allowed to block our driveway with impunity.
Why do commercial areas get traffic enforcement where vehicles that park i.l.l.e.g.a.l.l.y on the street (.e.g in red zones or obstructing driveways, not paying the meter, etc) get ticketed, and yet vehicles that park in red zones, block driveways, etc in residential areas get away with it?
Why is enforcement so selective?

Hey Sgt. Foster so just to follow up and confirm that following your advice achieves absolutely nothing;
The other day I witnessed my neighbor driving out of his carport at 2614 Central Ave with his pickup truck, which does not have a front license plate. I watched as he drove the vehicle onto a public Alameda street (Central Ave), made a left turn towards Broadway and proceeded out of sight.
I immediately called APD to report the vehicle driving without a front plate. The dispatcher put me on hold for 5 minutes to buy him time to get away as soon she recognized my voice.
Then, as I tried to tell her what just happened, she literally started giving me attitude and questioning me why I was reporting someone for driving without a front plate.
You can't make this stuff up. Only in Alameda do the dispatchers actually give you attitude and demand you explain yourself for trying to report a cr.i.m.e in progress.
"What, you're trying to report someone breaking the law? Why? What's wrong with you" -APD dispatchers, every single day when someone calls them to report a crime
THAT is the reason why I opened this request Sgt. Foster. You need to fix your department. Your dispatchers are totally out of line and refusing to do their jobs. Your dispatchers are giving callers attitude and even interrogating them as to why they would dare call and report a crime in progress!
What kind of joke outfit are you guys running anyway?

Also he was out driving his silver Dodge Ram pickup truck today, which also has no front license plate. He was out driving it around from around 4 AM until this afternoon. Your officers did nothing about it. They never even attempted to cite him.
His daughter also was driving around in her Infiniti QX56 SUV all day with no front license plates either
and she blocked the driveway and her family swerved into our driveway all day to go around her suv as a bonus
so thanks for letting this continue for years Sgt. Foster. We all know we can't count on your police department for anything, and that we're completely on our own when laws are broken in our communities. We can't count on you for ANYTHING.
And then to add insult to injury the people who you allow to break laws every day even go to the further extremes just to rub it in and mock those of us who try to report them.
Your police department is utter trash, enforces no laws, does not serve the people of this island and uses the taxpaying residents of this island as a bunch of cattle to fund your property investments and retirement. You all make six-digit figure salaries at the expense of Alameda's working class who you ignore and ridicule when we try to report crimes. Your dispatchers give us attitude and treat us worse than the criminals you let run amok in our neighborhood every day.
I dont even know how you sleep at night knowing what a disgrace you are and how badly you treat the people who subsidize your department.

So tell me again why we should follow your advice Sgt. Foster? Tell me again why you're suggesting we call that number to report this when it is occurring if your very own dispatchers refuse to take the call and even give callers attitude and question them about why they're even reporting it? Riddle me that Sgt. Foster!
Can you imagine calling 911 and trying to report someone being a.t.ta.c.k.ed by a mugger, and the dispatcher, instead of immediately dispatching an officer to the scene to save the victim, starts giving you attitude and demanding that you explain to them why you're reporting this? Can you imagine if your department treated all calls the way they treat mine?
Again I dont know how you even sleep at night. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself, but then again that sort of shame would require that you actually have morals and ethics, which I don't actually think you or any of your colleagues do.

Sgt. Foster remind me again why we are paying you almost $300,000 a year (https://transparentcalifornia.com/salaries/2018/alameda/brian-foster/) to summarily mass-close parking enforcement requests on seeclickfix without resolving them, and giving useless, tone-deaf advice that totally disregards what we told you like "just call our dispatch center when this is occurring" (even though that's precisely what we've BEEN doing, with absolutely no results) to alamedans concerned over your departments' continued failure to enforce laws in our community?
How do you justify robbing the taxpayers of nearly 300 grand every year, more than what software engineers make at Apple and Google, to sit around ignoring us and letting criminals run amok in Alameda?

Hey Sgt. Foster so I just spotted the owner of 2614 Central ave hop in his silver dodge ram pickup truck with no front license plate and speed off westbound onto Central Avenue. He was speeding and his turns screeched as he burned rubber onto central. First attempt to report it to APD (as he was getting into the vehicle, before he drove off in the hopes that maybe they'd catch him before he leaves the island) your worthless, rude and incompetent corrupt pile of trash dispatcher put me on hold. They've been doing their "is this an emergency or can you hold" game all morning, since I first reported my neighbor's i.l.l.e.g.al motorcycle activities earlier this morning around 7 am. All these hours later and they're still playing that game to screw over Alameda taxpayers who pay their salaries and buy time for criminals to get away.
Then the second time I called after holding for 10 minutes and watching this j-ck-ss get away, your worthless and corrupt dispatcher immediately rerouted me to some extension that started playing hold music, like the kind you hear when you call city hall. This just further proves that your dispatchers are making their own rules and finding new ways to ignore callers. Normally when dispatchers put you on hold you have a periodic beeping sound, but they just rerouted me to some other number to sweep the call under the rug, hence the hold music.
Finally, after the third attempt (15 minutes after he already drove off), a dispatcher finally answered, and this time they didn't ask me if I had an emergency like the dispatcher were asking all morning today from 7 AM to 11:13 AM. Isn't it interesting how the "emergency" magically disappears after only 3 attempts to call them?
Anyway, just dropping by to remind you that you're full of sh** and your advice is f***ing worthless because your stuck up, entitled dispatchers who think they're above everyone in this town despite being a bunch of uneducated, room-temperature IQ police academy rejects who get paid six digit figures just to sit in a call center all day picking their noses and watching youtube are too busy enjoying themselves at the expense of taxpayers to take our calls
Once again I extend my sincerest gratitude to APD for their continued refusal to enforce laws in our community, and continously demonstrating that there is no bottom to how low you can sink. you are the lowest scum of any law enforcement agency in america
