Description
I just received a call from the President of the P.T.A. of P.S.#20 School. He is also the Community liaison for this area. He wanted to know how to request the street closing at the intersection of Ocean Ave. & Cator Ave. for a half hour period in the morning and again in the afternoon.
The time he has request is from 8:10-8:40 AM for student arrival and from 2:10-2:40 PM for student dismissal.
He said, there is also the Glen D. Cunningham pre-school located in the same area. The traffic in this area is especially dangerous, because vehicles have been cutting through the parking lot of Peckman’s Pharmacy located on the corner of Ocean Ave. & Cator Ave. He said, one student was hit by one of this vehicles, but didn’t suffer any injuries.

The Traffic Division has not received a formal request from the school. Our office can issue a regulation to formalize this request for closure once we receive the following:
1. A formal letter on the school's letterhead requesting the closure with a summary of the reasons why it is needed, how it would be used, and how the school would operate the closure.
2. Correspondence from the Councilperson, Councilwoman Denise Ridley in support of the closure; and
3. Correspondence from the South District Police Department in support of the request.
Upon receipt of the above-referenced material, this office would be able to issue the regulation.
