Description
Please hang white with black arrows, overhead, rectangular, commonly used directional signs on the north bound lanes of College Street at the intersection of Hardeman Avenue/Washington Street. The right lane sign should be for straight and right turn only, and the left lane sign should be for left turn only. The travel lanes at the intersection do not line up evenly in both directions, so better signage is needed, and there are only two faded left turn arrows painted on the pavement. When cars line up at the light they cover the painted arrows. There should be at least three left turn arrows and preferably three indicating 'straight and right turn.'

The reason that the left hand lane is both straight and right is because of the PARKING spots that block the right hand lane. There simply isnt enough of a right hand lane at times to allow everyone going straight to be in the right hand lane. They don't have enough land to make a 3rd lane, so they can't change the lane setup because it would slow traffic and cause accidents.
They need to extend the time that left hand turns can be made. I don't think they allow enough time. They need to have the time extended by 15 to 30 seconds depending on if its a busy weekday or a slower weekend.
I have lived in Macon for 45 years and this is the only way this road can possibly work. The right hand lane when blocked by parked cars can only hold around 3 cars that want to turn right at the same time, so if the right hand lane has to be stopped by cars going straight then the road would be constantly backed up to the Hardeman/Pine crossroads.

I just think the lines need to be painted darker white on the lanes. It's obvious to me into which lanes each vehicle can get into. If don't need expensive signs.
If they make both lanes go straight, then there is not enough time to switch lanes to get into the one you need to be in before the Georgia Ave/College St intersection. This would cause massive wrecks and so I don't see how they can consider to change the directions.
You can detour from college Street and go down orange street that is on the other side of the library or you can go further down next to the church to get out faster.
The state is responsible for the painted lines on the road, so they will have to notify the state that the turn signs on the roadway needs to be repainted.
