Deskripsyon
About a year and a half ago I reported damage to the side walk star on Orange St. It is now totally demolished someone purposely chipped out the whole thing. The other stars on the sidewalk are NOT damaged like this. I was promised that it would be repaired now it’s gone probably forever because it was an installation. I’m truly disappointed

Hello Ms. Gardin,
I noticed this is the 4th time this issue has been reported. Two of the reports have been closed as duplicates of the other one that remains open. It can be found here.

It truly is sad to see this granite star gone. This particular one was dedicated to Rev. Elnora Bess, one our city's most famous fashion designers of the 20th century.
The art was done by Sheila Levrant de Bretteville in 1994 while she was employed with the Yale School of Art as the director of the Graduate Program in Graphic Design. She now lives in Brooklyn, New York. I'm sure there must be some way to have the design reproduced. Yale School of Art must have records of the design. Allegedly, our city has been working on a way to have this art restored. If there are any obstacles to accomplishing this project, I'd be glad to help.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked at the location a few hours ago and it does look like someone could trip on it. Hopefully, this reported issue will gain more attention.

I'm very sorry to hear our city hasn't taken any measures to help with this historical granite stone. Our mayor, Justin Elicker, seems to be doing a good job, so it's possible he hasn't heard about this desecration. Also, I noticed the status of this reported issue has not been changed from "Open" to "Acknowledged". That means nobody employed with our city has seen it or it has been seen and the employee who saw it chose to ignore it.
