Description
The red left turn arrows along State St. installed in 2010 are a nuisance. They are unnecessary and cause traffic to wait for exceptionally long times, often with little or no oncoming traffic that would otherwise prohibit making a left turn. Not to mention the wait time far exceeds the 30 second limit set by the city’s self imposed “No Idle Zone” Committee.

I understand your frustration with these red left turn lights. However, you have to first understand that this section of E.State St. is 3 lanes of traffic. Most drivers are not skilled enough to judge 3 lanes traffic to safely turn left at these intersections. I think the city changed all of the intersections between I-90 and Alpine Rd, so that all or most of the left turns are green light only. This was done because of too many serious accidents happening at these intersections. The 2 most notorious intersections that I have noticed over the years, were Roxbury and E.State, N/S Newtowne Dr and E.State. I think that St. Anthony's had an dedicated ambulance just waiting for a major accident to happen. Which I recall happened at least 2-3 accidents per month.
I do see your point on reducing the waiting time to turn left. They are so long it feels like your there at least 5min.
