I have not heard from anyone on this issue for over two months. I can understand the short supply of manpower but this issue will not go away. Perhaps it would be better to schedule stump removal as part of removing trees rather than as a secondary, and apparently less important, issue. I have had to treat the stump to protect my property from slugs, bees and ants while waiting for the stump to be removed.
Send an email to Parks head of maintenance, Christy Hass at chass AT newhavenct.net (use the @ symbol). Stumps are not the same priority as dead trees, but they do indeed need to be removed and in a much more timely manor than they've been dealt with for the past few years. I'm meeting with Christy and Bob Levine soon (10/1) to chat more about how the city deals with Trees.
I am still waiting for the stump to be removed and do not want this item closed. I appreciate the city starting seeclickfix but have not seen any benefit other than the periodic update. I have to assume that items are being closed.
I have not heard of any movement for this issue. I am hopeful that this will be completed before the first snowfall as the stump may pose as a risk once it's hidden by snow.
I met with Christy Hass recently and got a lot of background on the "how, what, why" regarding the City's stewardship of its trees. Stumps unfortunately are pretty far down on the priority list. I will continue to try to move it up the list. There is one stump removal rig/truck and it is only staffed by one of the 2 tree trimming crews/trucks when they're not out cutting. They are mainly dealing with safety/priority one tree issues. The city did also spend the budgeted $95K to subcontract addl work. This however probably never went to stump removal. I will continue to keep a list of Ward 25 stumps and continue to remind Parks to please get to these too. Please read my blog linked from my website about my meeting with Christy. www.dildine25.org
This is still open. I am curious as why each 2 week reminder states the issue is 14 days old versus 4 months old? It would be better for all involved if the lack of response was accurate.
I appreicate the comment Greg. I will continue to comment as I am curious to see what the city does with the information from this web site.
It would be nice if the city accummulated issues of similar types and reported on the mean time to repair or closure. I have a feeling my issue would not skew the results but may indicate where the city has to pour more dollars into maintenance coffers.
Sounds like a cool project for a citizen to take up as well.
All of that data is available from SeeClickFix through free data feeds created by the watch areas.
Feel free to get it to someone who can mash it up.
I'll be talking to Ben more about this. Also, there may be some overlap with what www.yale.edu/URI (I just read about this in their current newsletter) is doing to help the city with GIS/data base systems.
For now, while some City departments and employees monitor seeclickfix, complaints may also need to be called and emailed in more directly.
Most departments also ask that Alders help keep track of issues and help with funneling them to the right place. Transparency of "to-do" lists and more feedback/acknowledgment of complaints is desired by many.
Parks removed this stump last week. They've marked many more recently to be removed as they are sending around a crew this winter to remove as many as they can.
I am happy to say the stump has been ground into a fine pulp. I spoke to the gentelmen performing the work and asked when the fine pulp would be removed and was told that is, again, up to scheduling. I commend those who removed the stump as it was done completely, quickly and they cleaned up after their work.
Now into the 8th month of this task and still a mound of pulp remains; I might addthe pulp is higher than the stump. The wood pulp has been rained upon, snowed upon and has now frozen into a solid mass. I was orginally concerned that the pulp would be blown all over the neighborhood, but that cannot happen.
I had noticed that there was another tree on McKinley that was also ground down and the pulp remains, however, I noticed that a tree was taken down near the church on the corner of McKinley and Fountain and when taken down all wood was removed, the stump was ground and the pulp removed. Seems like this approach might satisfy home owners as well.

Parks will try to get a stump crew out this winter once these guys have less leaf work in the parks
I have asked that they address the many 10' stumps that are indeed unsightly .
