I second this. If not a flashing yellow, then give the traffic from Stevens onto E. Main Street a green arrow. Vehicles coming from Stevens going onto E. Main routinely try to beat the oncoming traffic from E.Main towards Stevens. To be honest, this also happens at the lights at the intersection of Union and Bolton.

The “YIELD ON LEFT” (which is the “Rule of the Road”) sign was placed at this intersection at the direction of the Traffic Commission as a result of a request similar to this.

The flashing yellow left turn arrow, the same situation that were incorporated into the new signals on Maple Street at South Street and at the Mill Street/Walker intersections, are the new standard required by the Federal Highway Administration – Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for signalized intersection. Per MUTCD requirements, this change as well as other changes to traffic signal, pedestrian signal and crosswalk configuration are required if the intersection is upgraded in any way. A total upgrade of the signalized intersection is currently under design by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
