BTW - if you enlarge the photo you can see it's a Brockton DOT truck, with other identifying information on the truck door. Perhaps Cambridge can fill our neighbors to the south in with our idling laws (and the fact that our planet is currently on fire)?
This is also a problem with Lyft / Uber cars that sit on residential streets while awaiting their next ride. They can't legally park on these streets and don't want to pay for parking (meter), so they sit and idle and move along if a parking officer CPD comes along on foot.
...although my experience w/ Lyft/Uber is that they don't wait long. if their "fare" isn't out within 2 mins, they take off. the fare still has to pay (their own) no-show fee!
@Ms. Richards - they live outside of Boston metro and come here to get work/drive. They have to have somewhere to sit while they wait for someone to request a ride. NYC has a parking lot for taxis to do that, sort of like the cell phone lot at the airport. The last mile shipping vans do the same thing while they are on break, just sit there and idle and look at their phones and spew exhaust for 10 or 15 minutes even when the weather is nice.
In the future, if you see this type of activity, we encourage you to call the Cambridge Police non-emergency number at 617-349-3300 and an available, nearby officer will be dispatched to the location.
