The First Ave Guardians are asking for a meeting with the mayor of WH and the police chief to discuss the recent accident related death on First ave 2 weeks ago.. We are purposing a 4 way stop sign on First and Brown street and strategically placed speed bumps in high speed spots, along First Ave to the boat ramp..

This was done on Front Street in Fair Haven and the Speeding and accidents went away completely..
Ultimately this last accident related fatality on First Ave would not have happened if the Mayor of WH did more than just yes us to death..

I have witnessed this speeding and passing myself. On my morning commute, driving north on First Ave, it is not uncommon for someone to be impatient with my 25-30 mph driving to pass me, despite the presence of school kids and buses, etc. Also, Beach St must not be ignored, because it is part of the same problem In all my years of walking my dogs along Beach St, i have never ONCE seen a patrol car or motorcycle monitoring for speeding. I HAVE seen police cars parked deep behind Chick's, or occasionally in the Morse Park parking lot, but they're not holding radar units, and their view is (conveniently?) blocked by Chick's to the west and the skate park to the east ("speeding? I didn't see any speeding"). Commuters use Beach St and First Ave as a high-speed east-west bypass, where experience would quickly tell anyone that you can drive however you like on these two streets with complete impunity.

A similar situation we have on BEACH STREET in West Haven.
Our oceanside condominium's board ,where 30 tax payers residents leave ,had a meeting with the mayor several years ago .
A speed and noise problem have been discussed. In the spring ,summer and fall motorcycles and cars are speeding and making unbearable noise . NOTHING WAS DONE. Speed bumps are the only answer. Police present was provided on Beach Street in the summer only. As soon as they go away the speeders and the noise makers come back. Thre are speed bumps all over on the beach streets of Milford, There are speed bumps on several streets in New Haven. In all these locations the problem have been solved. We want them on BEACH STREET in West Haven

Yes, before the summer begins the speeding to, from, and along the beach needs to be addressed.

Stop sign has been added and the police patrol more regularly. Thanks for working to make our neighborhood better!
