Thank you George, a voice of reason. They have had 8 years to make the city better and all you have to do is read through the list of complaints posted on this site to know turner has been an utter failure. Water leaks, pipes broken, potholes everywhere, trash not picked up, recycling not picked up, fire department vehicles falling apart, woefully understaffed police department, and the list goes on and on. Hire your cronies to do the work and they get rich but nothing gets done. Hire a "friend" making more than longtime employees and then send him on travels around the world to learn how to do his job. Tsk, tsk

I am more concerned about Houston's violent crime rate and burglaries. I feel like Turner has either turned a blind-eye to these types of crimes or, simply assists in the decreasing time-length these criminals are incarcerated and go through the system swiftly, once they are caught.

We all are concerned about the rising crime rates though Chief Acevedo continues to insist crime is down. If you believe HPD officers on the street though, they do not have the officers needed to do much of anything. Policing used to be proactive, now it's reactive and consists mostly of arriving after the fact, sometimes hours later, and making a report. Although many citizens provide footage from their Ring and other security cameras HPD openly states they don't have time to watch them so why bother submitting them in the first place. The mayor controls the budget so without his interests in our safety too few HPD Academy classes are held. No new recruits, no one to replace the officers who retire or just quit in frustration.

Regardless, HPD and the city administration needs to reprioritize it's issues about social activities and more about safety/security activities. Otherwise, there won't be anything to be social about, in the future.

Yes. Law enforcement agencies are reactive now, they respond after the fact and make a report. Even without arming yourself there are ways to protect yourself and avoid dangerous situations if they would just do them. Paying attention to one's surroundings is the first step.
