Description
This isn't a temporary issue such as a pothole, it's an ongoing issue. Is the city of Hastings going to wait until someone gets killed or seriously injured before putting a traffic signal in front of the K-Mart/Family Fare parking lot? Making a left turn out of that lot at certain times of the day can be dangerous. If I drive to the east side of the Applebee's restaurant, there is a street with an intersection, but that, too, is only a stop sign. The city should create some way in which people can get to a traffic signal, either by putting up a new one or creating a driveway to the one that is just west of the Pennock State St. clinic.

No, no light that I've seen so far. I'll be back to that intersection on Monday, so I'll be able to provide a more up-to-date report then, but the last time I was there ( a couple of weeks ago), the city of Hastings had done nothing about the problem.

What's so stupid about it is that there's a flashing light next to the Applebee's, so the wires and fixtures are obviously already there. All they'd have to do is replace the flasher with a red-yellow-green 3-way light. But apparently nobody's going to do that until someone gets seriously injured. And since I don't live in Hastings (although my husband works there and I'm frequently in town with my elderly parents for doctor visits) I don't have any clout in that area.
I also have no idea whether any city officials from Hastings have even seen my post.
Oh, well...

Anyway, that's the intersection that I was talking about, just east of the shopping center. Although the main entrance to the shopping center is on State Street, people can exit the parking lot to Market, but it doesn't do them any good because there's only a flashing light at that corner. The traffic from market still has to wait for a break in the traffic on State (which, if I recall, is 5 lanes wide) to make their left turns. It's just crazy.
And a mile or so farther west on State is the same problem at the WalMart entrance. You take your life in your hands to make a left turn there, too, and there is no traffic signal, nor is there an opportunity to exit to the side street. I've had to wait for accident clean-ups there, too.
Whoever makes the traffic light decisions in that area should be fired -- or pay the bill for all the wrecked cars.
