Description

I drive past this property every day on my way home and get sick of looking at this abandoned eyesore that is contaminated according to the IEPA leaking tank website. No clean up work has occurred since 2003 and it worries me to know that this may be contaminating our ground water in Loves Park. The City has invested lots of time and money for North Second Street, yet nothing is done about the first property you see when entering the City from the south. Can something please be done? Can the EPA help out at all?

Both the city and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency are aware of this issue. The city has said it will consider whether to acquire the property and use grant money to clean the violation. Representatives from the EPA said Wednesday a written notice would be sent to owners about the need to clean the violation. -- Kevin Haas, reporter

Did the EPA provide any direction on the timeline? How long do cases like this typically take to resolve? Was there any indication from the EPA or the city on the timeline before acquisition for cleanup?
