Installation of a traffic signal at Canton and North main would create a severe safety issue because of the 6% grade down from lantern Lane to the intersection. Traffic signals cannot be installed without meeting MUTCD requirements and MassDOT approval. This location cannot meet existing warrant requirements. A public hearing and meeting with abutters was recently held on this intersection. There will be new signage installed soon to address some of the issues there.

We are pleased to report back to you that this issue will be addressed with new LED signage, right-turn only signage at Cheryl and future modifications to the intersection striping. traffic signal installation cannot be accommodated due to severe safety concerns and lack of ability to have signals approved by MassDOT. The long grade down to the intersection would create a severe rear-end collision issue, especially in winter months.
