I live on Summit Ave and Sherman Place. This corner has been the scene of many a car accident and near misses. Speed bumps were put in from Central Ave. crossing over Summit Ave. to Sanford. This has slowed cars down but we need a stop sign on Summit Avenue in both directions. There was a horrible accident last night, 11/22/2019 about 11:04 PM. A couple crossing over Summit Avenue were violently struck while walking their dogs. They were walking towards Central Avenue crossing Summit Avenue. The car was traveling South in Summit Avenue towards Manhattan Avenue. She was hit so hard, that she was knocked out of her boots and coat and bounced into a parked car’s windshield. WE NEED A STOP SIGN PLEASE.

I totally support this study request! Years ago, my wife also had an accident at this intersection. Cars speed up and down Summit, and it's too hard to see on-coming cars from the Sherman side with all the parked cars. The 2-way lanes on Summit are too narrow, especially with buses, that there is just no room to swerve to avoid an accident, and that particular stretch of the road is not well lit. So sorry to hear about the pedestrian - Can we have a campaign to enforce Vision Zero and get more/all drivers to YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS? Please!

Thanks Ed. It was really bad. I’ve seen car run into trees on Sherman Place trying to beat Summit Ave traffic.

Please provide floppy yield sign here (in center or road) at both crosswalks on summit/Sherman place! VERY dangerous intersection

Based on the findings of the preliminary traffic assessment, we will install curb extensions at this intersection to clear the corners and improve the visibility between pedestrians and drivers. Please allow 3 to 6 months to prepare the striping plan and complete the installation. We will also collect traffic volume data at this intersection in order to conduct a signal warrant analysis. Please allow 4 to 6 months for this work to be completed.

Another accident on 03/21/2020. 02:30. Traffic was low at this time, especially during the Covid19 outbreak. Yet there was another accident on this same intersection where the vehicle veered onto the sidewalk hitting the fences of two homes. Please assess quickly to avoid any other fatalities.

Another pedestrian struck on her citi bike crossing summit by a pick up traveling south bound. Known issue and no updates. We need a traffic light here. No stop signs/flashing light signs. A traffic light. This will obviously disrupt traffic flow but isnt that the point? Traffic here must forcefully be slowed down and allow people the right of way by waiting their turn. There is not enough visibility for motorists or pedestrians to safely cross the intersection at the average speeds of summit avenue.
