Description
At the intersection of Atlantic and Atlantic/Pacific, the cross walk buttons have been covered by masking tape making it impossible for them to serve their intended purpose. A few weeks ago, the Public Works department runs an ad in the Beacon describing a planned project to improve pedestrian safety along nearby Pacific. Public Works could start by removing the masking tape so pedestrians could use one of the few cross walks with signals in the area. They could also get the developer to restore the sidewalks he has torn up on the northeast corner of the intersection.

I’m very pleased to read Valerie’s comment. I found it astonishing that Public Works had an advertisement in the Beacon saying pedestrian safety improvements are planned for the northern stretch of Pacific Avenue and then covers up one of the few crosswalks in the corridor. And given that this project of blocking a public roadway is being done to benefit a private developer, it should be noted that said developers’ guests will risk their lives to go to the beach by foot.
We can only hope that the acting city manager will next inform the developer that after having the sidewalks on the east side of Atlantic torn up for years, the time has come to rebuild them or build a protective barrier for pedestrians going between the Boardwalk and oceanfront avenue or vice versa.
