YES SETH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BUT PEOPLE IN GENERAL ARE SELF CENTERED AND WILL NOT GIVE YOU A CHANCE, IF THAT IS THE CASE OF NOT HAVING IT ONE SIDE PARKING THEN THEY SHOULD ALSO DO SO ON PINE STREET, AND HAVE PARKING ON BOTH SIDES. WHY IS ONE STREET BETTER THAN THE OTHER.

If people who actually live on the street want it one-sided, then it should be strongly considered. But if this is someone who only passes through there that wants it changed, then it would be wrong. Figuring that this would effect all those people when they didn't ask for it, thats a problem. Lafayette is the street where there is always flags out every day of the year and more at the holidays. Most patriotic street in the city.

The street belongs to the neighborhood, not the automobile traffic running through it. The people living there, walking there, the kids, bicycles: those are the proper owners of the street. As to the proper way to traverse the street: those who are aware and those who live on that street should be quick to demonstrate to other drivers they encounter about yielding when that is needed.

Lafayette should not be used as a speedy shortcut; keep in mind it is a residential street to those who live there, and they need a place to park, as well as reasonable neighborhood speed considerations.

It was a pleasure to drive down lafayette when the town turned it into one sided parking. there was no hassle to calmly travel that road. now one must be on the look out for those drivers who don't give a crap about you.

THERE ARE MANY STREETS IN KINGSTON THAT HAVE ONLY ONESIDE PARKING ,,,,WHY IS LAFAYETTE EXEMPT, IT WAS A PLEASURE TO TRAVEL ON IT WHEN THEY HAD TO RESTRICT THE PARKING FOR WORKING ON WASHINGTON AVE DURING THE YEAR. BRING IT BACK OR DISCONTINUE THE OTHER STREETS FOR ONESIDED PARKING. WHAT IS GOOD FOR ONE STREET SHOULD BE GOOD FOR ALL.....

Then there is the simple benefit: by making Lafayette nice for the residents and less nice for through traffic, it makes that a nice place to live. You can choose to drive a different street.

I AM READING YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT THE STREET BELONGING TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD. IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN THEY THE NEIGHBORHOOD SHOULD BE PLOWING THE STREET AND NOT THE TOWN. WHEN A STREET IS PART OF A TOWN OR CITY IT BELONGS TO ALL THE PEOPLES AND SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL TRAFFIC IN A CALM MANNER, THE WAY IT IS NOW IS NOT A CALM STREET.IT IS A MENACE TO PROPER TRAVELING INDIVIDUALS, SO KINGSTON EITHER PLACE ALL STREETS THAT ARE NOT A 4 LANE ROADWAY,THAT IS 2 TRAVELING AND 2 PARKING LANES INTO ONE SIDE OF THE STREET PARKING OR DONT DO IT TO ANY.......

when is the city going to put in a winter emergency for ALL of the city's streets with one side parking. one cannot traverse any street safely. i guess the mayor wants people to have accidents and sue .......

Seems like the city, from the various comments on seeclickfix needs to
1) address problems with traffic and direction at several important intersections and streets... that sounds like some committee work and a target date.
2) ditto with how the city handles snow emergencies
Citizens may write to their representatives or show up at the common council meeting and make their wishes known.

FYI
I have requested that the Public Safety Committee address this and come up with Winter Parking Rules which would limit parking to one side of the street. It is near impossible to pass through many streets in Kingston (especially Lafayette).
Some may not agree, but it would be better for everyone including our DPW crew who has to keep the streets clear.

This city needs to think. And it needs to talk: talk to its citizens.
If this city were a person, it would be diagnosed as passive aggressive. No joke.

When it snows, cars have to pull over and wait to pass. I have recently seen the school bus give up and back down the street rather than try to maneuver what is an obstacle course in the winter. Requiring one-side of the street parking would be a huge improvement.

excellent on the parking restriction. it amazes me that 1. I drive down Lafayette and find driveways empty but cars parked in the street and then 2. Lafayette residents complain about people driving on "their" street. It's not "their" street, it's a public roadway which belongs to the US public. You don't want your neighbors driving on Lafayette, you take up a collection from Lafayette residents to reimburse the city for taxes spent on repair, snow removal and garbage pickup. Good luck with that.
