The city hangs too many signs over here in the crest, seems like most of them are negative toward our community

I'm sure if you Pay for it.. I do not see that its a good use of tax dollars.

New welcome sign ? How about new LARGER stop signs when exiting the Crest. Cars leaving Geyser Crest very seldom stop and pull out in front of oncoming traffic on Geyser Road !!!!

I agree. There was a large sign on Eureka when I lived in Geyser Crest back in the 70's. It was a wonderful place to raise children, and we had nice neighbors in The Eureka/Hayes Drive/Vichy Drive area. When We drive through that area today it still looks like nice area to raise a family.

The sign on Geyser Road fell apart, one stone at a time. It was an eyesore and promoted the misconception that we had a shabby neighborhood. It also promoted the idea that we were residents of Geyser Crest and not the city of Saratoga Springs. Local maps of Saratoga Springs were even made without the Geyser Crest neighborhood included in the city limits! Officials in city hall were heard to say "You don't think we care about G.C. do you?" Local realtors advised customers to avoid G.C.
All that has changed for the better since the sign was removed. DPW now puts a lot of effort into this neighborhood. Just look at the improvements of the city property/well-field on Hathorn. It is now a park-like setting with a state-of-the art water system. The Saratoga Police (Public Safety) patrol on a regular basis - unheard of in years past. The SSPD has helped residents coordinate one of the largest Neighborhood Watch communities in the country and we even have a "welcome sign" at every entrance to the Geyser Crest neighborhood.
Put your energy into things that will truly make a difference, like 50 feet of curbing at the corners of the Hathorn entrance or a piece of sidewalk that will get us from Hathorn to the crosswalk on Geyser Road at the school.
Volunteer to help the adopt-a-roadside program to clean up Geyser Road twice a year. Join The Southwest Neighborhood Association, which paid for the welcome sign on Geyser Road and erected the rail fence to protect the sand dune habitat. Join the Neighborhood Watch program to receive "alerts". Find out what Watch Zone you live in and offer to help.
There are so many important things to do and paying for a sign that divides us from the city is not one of them.
PS. There is no Geyser Crest Neighborhood Association. SWNA also includes Rowlands Hollow East, Evergreen Pointe, Emerald Forest, Casino, the Grande Industrial Park and The Springs.

The 'Geyser Crest' sign might have been attrative to some, but it was very negative and degrading to many others.

It became a nuisance over time and a place for kids to hang out, drink, litter, break bottles and stash empty beer cans and cigarette packs. For many many years, I was the only person to clean the area, trim the shrumbs and trees, pick up the litter and debris, throw away empty McDonalds bags and food wrappers, pick up the broken glass and empty beer cans, empty cigarettte packs, etc, etc, etc.

At a time when city government cannot even build a new police department building, it should be obvious to anyone with any financial sense that money is better spent on real needs.

If someone wants a sign, let get a permit, finance and erect a sign on their front yard and sit proudly in front of it for photo ops and interviews.

I would like to see welcoming signs at all entrances to The Crest. Residents are proud of our neighborhood.

So Roxanne, how many thousands of $$$ are you willing to donate to fund this program??? And if it gets done, how much of your time are you willing to spend keeping it clean and maintained?

Roxanne apparently does not see that every entrance has a "welcome" sign. Thanks to the SW Neighborhood Watch and the Southwest Neighborhood Association ( paid for the signs). These are the kind of signs that really matter. If Roxanne really wants to make a difference she should pay her $10 dues and volunteer. She could help pick up litter through the Adopt-a-Roadside program, remove illegal signs taped on our freshly painted street poles, help identify houses that have no required house numbers posted. There are a lot of things that make an attractive and safe neighborhood and there are many good ideas for spending our hard-earned money but a silly GC sign is certainly not one of them.

The writer named "Safe Guy" should consider the speed limit on Geyser Road. With the limit being 35mph, it is possible to stop at the stop sign and pull out with a car in distant view. If the person driving on Geyser Rd. is exceeding the speed limit then he/she will have to slow down as vehicles enter the road. I have never witnessed someone blowing the stop sign at Eureka or Hayes and Geyser Rd. so I would question just how fast is "safe guy" driving?

because it is only being stirred up by one uninformed person and the subject is making neighbors peeved and disgusted. The man who had to take care of the original sign would never allow this back in front of his house. "Signs" do not make a good neighborhood. They are made of residents willing to get involved in positive activities like litter abatement, removing illegally posted signage, reporting code violations and beautifying your property. If Mr. GC only knew what the name of his neighborhood used to mean to realtors and City Hall, he might be enlightened. Until then, drop it! We live in the city of Saratoga Springs and SWNA paid for a sign saying so as you enter the city on Geyser Road. Amen.
