Our only hope is the change in City Council coming. This past Council term proved they were just lame ducks that allowed the City Manager to become de/facto mayor and let his hotel and Salt Pile friends run run rough shot over all of us. Let’s hope we get this corruption out soon and get a Council that works on projects that affect all of us.

Alex! Speaking the truth the City Manager and some of the Council Members have indeed been lame ducks and been bullied. The Org chart for Chelsea has the residents up top, then council members below them, and only after them is the City Manger listed. He is an employee of the people and does seem to forget this as he drives himself home to Nahant every day. He does not live with the issues of Chelsea residents.

He is also looking at re-zoning the entire upland marginal side which eastern salt has purchased as they work together to make it commercial and light industrial instead of leaving it residential.

Why would they re-zone Marginal all in favor of the salt pile company??? Lynn, Everett, Boston, etc.. are all revitizling their old industrial waterfronts for mixed use, the only reason I see for giving that company full reign down their is pure corruption at City Hall. We need more affordable housing, grocery stores, restaurants, and companies that actually employ large amounts of people, not vacant land.

If they do vote on re-zoning the waterfront for the salt pile company, obviously anyone voting on it must not have taken any campaign contributions from salt pile company, be a member of a group who takes donations from the salt pile company, or have personal relationships with the owners of the company. If they do have these things and vote on it, I recommend sending this to MA Ethics Committee immediately for potential corruptions charges for City Council members. It would be a pretty easy case.

Wow. Given all these statements, I am going to work to verify or refute them. I am going to be calling this ethics committee to file an investigation, immediately. Thank you for the recommendation. I don't have time to bother with this city government anymore. The residents of this city have been living under these corrupt bureaucrats long enough. We were presented a revitalization of the Chelsea water front and barely anything has happened except the installation of "PORT park" which remains closed almost all the time. The best they did for the bridge is make a Twitter account and light up board. Ridiculous. Enough is enough.

Neighbors - while I share your frustration with bridge lifts that have no regard to how they impact the communities, I find your anger towards the City administration to be misplaced. You need to remember that the City of Chelsea has *absolutely* no control over the Chelsea Street and McArdle bridges.
(1) The Chelsea Street Bridge is owned and operated by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and the McArdle Street Bridge is owned and operated by the City of Boston.
(2) There is a federal statute that stipulates that these bridges must open "at will."
(3) The seriously flawed 'advanced notification' program (@LogantoChelsea) is run by Massport, and pertains only to the Chelsea Street Bridge. The various state entities apparently aren't able to coordinate with the City of Boston to tie the McArdle Bridge into the notification system.
(4) The advanced notification program also pertains only to the very large ships entering and exiting the Chelsea Creek - their movements are scheduled in advance by a shipping agent. There are many other smaller vessels that traverse the Creek, and the bridges are required by federal statute to open whenever one of them wants to come through.
(5) Chelsea City Manager Ambrosino, At-Large Councilor/City Council President Damali Vidot, GreenRoots Chelsea, and a number of Chelsea residents have very actively and forcefully been pushing for a moratorium on bridge lifts during rush hours, and have actively and forcefully been pushing Massport, MassDOT, and the MBTA to advocate for this moratorium with the City of Chelsea and its residents. A moratorium *will* require a change to federal statute, which means we need our DC delegation on board, which means we need a whole constellation of people, entities and organizations working with everyone so negatively impacted by the bridge openings. I hope all of you will join in this effort.

Sharlene. I agree and appreciate the facts put forward as they help us all better understand. I do however firmly believe in the power of public pressure (i.e. News Stories, and speaking out publicly against said regulations, and organizations) I do not believe our City Leadership is doing enough with their soapbox to put public pressure on the issue. If this were effecting Brookline, Cambridge, etc.. You can bet we would have a news story every day about it and that is where we need to start pushing. I do also agree that State Reps need to get involved (something an elected official should again be pushing for). Now maybe I am not seeing these public statements and cries for help from our leaders in my search but if that is the case are they really loud enough?

The city/state can fight against the federal mandate as stated in the constitution and against maritime law.
These laws are hundred of years old and we need people in office w the ..... to stand up to the fed. It’s BS we have to live and except that ships can come when ever they want. Causing traffic for 30-45 min for the simple reason that they were there at that time. They can WAIT! Really, we live here. The oil and gas can wait till OUR rush hours our over and we need people in office to fight for us with out fear and backlash from the deep pockets of the oil and gas industry. Period!
