That’s in front of Healy’s Tavern so there are actually two unmarked crosswalks. One is at Division Street and Newark Avenue and the other is 40 yards up Newark Avenue and Sixth Street and Newark Avenue. They are both very dangerous and many kids attending PS 5 and McNair High School use these to cross Newark Avenue. And maybe forward to law enforcement to slow drivers down after 3:00pm —why isn’t there a crossing guard there? McNair gets one for high school kids at a four-way stop which is actually unnecessary, especially when you compare the age of high schoolers to elementary school at PS 5. Get a crossing guard before something bad happens.

We will conduct a preliminary traffic assessment to determine what type of traffic control is warranted at this intersection. The preliminary assessment will also help identify if a more in-depth study is required. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for the preliminary study to be completed.

Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), user-actuated flashing pedestrian crossing signs, are already installed at the intersection of Newark Ave and 5th St and therefore, we will not be installing RRFBs at Newark Ave and 6th St due to its close proximity; however, we will install the at the intersection of Newark Ave and 7th St. We will also present a draft ordinance to convert the intersection of 6th St and Division St into an all-way stop intersection at the next Council meeting.

Newark Avenue and cars speeding is the main problem here, no matter what type of sign you place here it won't do any good unless there are lights or at least a stop sign here.

What does the traffic assessment consists of? Has anyone been here and seen the speeding cars above 25 mph down the hill? It's worse than the turnpike most of the time with cars speeding without a care in the world. This area is becoming highly residential with new condos and extra property tax revenue to the city, is this how you attract new revenue to your organization?

Echoing the above statements: trying to cross Newark at any point before downtown feels like taking your life into your own hands. Cars speed up and down the hill, disregarding speed limits, pedestrians, and cyclists. Even when someone stops at the crosswalk, the car behind may try to bypass them (which has happened to us numerous times at Newark and Waldo). @Jennifer C please update us on progress of the above and safety measures being taken along that entire stretch of Newark. This situation is an accident waiting to happen. This has been complained about by residents since DECEMBER. This should NOT take 8 months to fix. The construction is making it even more dangerous for bikers and pedestrians.You can now add hundreds more residents and cars in this area of Newark area.

RRFBs were installed at Newark Ave and 7th St, Newark Ave and 5th St, and the intersection of Division St and 6th St was converted into an all-way stop controlled intersection.

The small changes on Division and 6th, Newark and 7th were done a while back. The problem is speeding and no traffic control on Newark Avenue from 7th Street to division street stretch. Please read the complaints carefully.

Closing tickets without action is not going to make problems go away, we as residents are paying thousands of dollars to bankroll the city and deserve the service we need. This video clearly shows the urgent need for traffic control shot on brought daylight and things only get worse at night time.
