Totally agree. Those black and white humps they put down to block entry to the bike lane are DANGEROUS. They are hard to see as drivers try to watch traffic and the pedestrians who cross at random and the panhandlers wandering in the street. I've seen several cars drive across them, one got hung up on them, and there is no telling the amount of damage done to tires, rims, and the undercarriage which of course the city will not pay for. If a motorcyclist ever hits one there will be a fatality accident. I have yet to see any cyclists using the bike lane. It sits empty while traffic squeezes into two lanes during the 5 o'clock traffic backup. Interesting how a small group of loud mouths have such influence at City Hall. Yes, I expect that same vocal group to come after me for this post...bring it on...but now the City is on notice of the hazardous condition it has created and when the lawsuits start they can't say they didn't know about it.

There are only 4 streets that go completely across Midtown and into the 3rd: Alabama, Elgin, McGowen, and Gray. Which of these "side streets" do you recommend people bike down?

@Kay They are made of rubber. No one is being damaged by the armadillos. If you and others have difficulty seeing them and the large amounts of green paint across the road, I would recommend reducing distractions inside of your car like eliminating cell phone usage while driving.

Why is it there are not streams of cyclists in the bike lane if biking is so popular? It sits empty while cars back up for blocks during rush hour. In bumper to bumper traffic turning onto or off of Gray drivers are not looking down at the road. At night the hideous green and black and white humps are not clearly visible. People who drive the street daily may know about them but all those people you want to come into Midtown down and the drunk drivers at night surely don't.

This is the beginning of a larger network. Most people will only bike when they feel comfortable. As Austin St and other connected bike lanes open, then I think you will see more people. A north/south route will be far more usable for bikers, and that will be coming.

Also, Gray still only has "heavy traffic" for a very small amount of time each day. I've driven through it several times in the PM rush hour and there has been little to no additional effect on traffic. Drivers during the other 23 hours per day are still enjoying at-will throughput down the street. It's just now 10am and traffic is completely free-flowing.

As far as designing streets for drunk drivers to easily navigate, I'm not sure what to say about that.
