Description

To whom it may concern,

My Name is Angelina Valdez and I am a stay at home mom due to Fibromyalgia, Degenerative Disk Disease and MDD, I had a pulmonary embolism in March and I am on a CPAP at night and oxygen as needed.
My two children aged 10 and 12 and their father Joel Reed and I live in Canyon Point Apartments on 301 Western Skies SE, in apartment 102 we have lived at this location for the last 3 years and have had issues with leaks in the past two years.
In the last year we have had a leak in our bathroom ceiling from the upstairs neighbors tub, we have asked for repairs since early last year and they would come patch it up with plaster and then two weeks later it’s leaking again and my tub is clogged with plaster.
In the past 6 months the leak has become severe and we have had a massive outbreak of roaches since then, we always had them but they were minimal and they sprayed monthly.
They originated in the vents and heating ducts as well as all the electrical outlets when we moved in.
They have taken over my CPAP and I have to duct tape it to keep them from going inside my mask.
Now due to the leaking the popcorn ceiling has separated and the roaches are coming from there in the ceiling as well. When the upstairs neighbors walk on it they fall out of the corners as it buckles slightly and run down the walls.
I have been trying to get the management company to fix this leak for a year to no avail and in the interim there was a change of management in September, the new management company Capstone Management has responded to one request for repair in October which failed in November and have basically ignored all requests since then.
They came this week to check the leak but as of this moment it is still dripping.
They have boarded off apartments within two other buildings and I was told they were a consolation company and repairs are not going to be done by another Tenant, they are just forcing people out.
This is a low income, poverty stricken area and I do feel it’s a form of discrimination. My family and I are African American and Hispanic.
In the past few months I have had several illnesses like migraines and numbness in my hands and feet I have been tested for different things but could not figure out what it was and as I look into Toxic mold exposure symptoms I feel that I do have this. My family spent Christmas break in Santa Fe with an elder and upon return I have been nauseous and sick throughout the day as I stay in the apartment, vomiting every moment after removing my CPAP
Both of my children have been diagnosed with Asthma in the last two months. I have been experiencing all of the symptoms as well as many more.
I’m the only person in the house all day as I’m in constant pain and homebound feeling sick all day.
I know I am not the only person having these issues in this complex and many are poor and elderly and medically vulnerable like myself with children.
Please help us if you can.
Thank you for your time,
Please advise,
Angelina Valdez
