The water in our building has been shut off three times since Nov 27 - again tonight for seven hours! - by Suez with very little (and in some case NO) warning. What is going on and how long is this going to continue? It's expensive and dangerous. We have people with serious chronic illnesses in our apartment. When do the city and Suez anticipate this being finished? When will more information be made available to citizens - have called Suez multiple times to no avail - and what resources are available to help vulnerable, sick populations with frequent water shut offs?

To Suez Jersey City: you are either uninformed or lying to me. The water WAS shut off starting at 3:15am. Furthermore, the notice posted a warning until 7am. This is the THIRD time our water has been shut down in a short period of time. When you say massive infrastructure restoration, could you elaborate? When you say it will be completed by the end of February, how many more shutdowns does that entail and how frequently? Wanting more information is not wrong. Suez and the city are wrong in not better informing citizens if there's a "massive infrastructure project" that will require repeat essential utility interruptions. There are sick people here. Is a water main broken? Is each shut down not finishing the repair? Are they installing something new or replacing something that will take repeat shutdowns? A Suez rep on the phone claimed that each shutdown was a a separate, unrelated incident of something breaking, and then she put me on hold indefinitely. I waited 45 minutes.
To DavidM: Obviously Suez acknowledged that there was going to be a water shutoff as I received the notice and have been trying to get more information. I am the public. WHERE is this information that you claim suez gave the public about these improvements? One of the water shutoffs we experienced had no notice at all.
I have called Suez customer service, the city, the landlord, Suez emergency line (the only number THEY provide for "more information" on their notice) and no one will give me more information, so clearly not everyone is informed. Instead of condescendingly telling me that people have been informed and dismissing my valid concerns about access to water for sick family members, can you actually address my post and share where this information is, or better yet, simply share it with me? Your post was less helpful than the one from Suez and more insulting.
Finally, no one has addressed the major concern of my post: are there resources provided by the city to help chronic, ill, and elderly residents during these repeat water shutdowns that we have been experiencing? They are expensive and dangerous.

However; Suez is not or has not been working in the area during the day. We will send an investigator over to see why there is no water currently.

The water was out around 11am today, a Wednesday. It is back on now.
Does "in the area" mean in the building? We have frequently had water interruptions with no notice. I understand there is necessary work being done; we only request adequate notice (at least 24 hours, in writing, posted in our building, with accurate hours). The notices (we we do receive them, which is not every time the water goes out) have inaccurate hours and show up less than 24 hours before the outage. I'd received conflicting information from Suez about the scope and timeline for this work. Will it be done by February as claimed in this thread? Does that mean the end of this month? Approximately how frequently can we expect outages while work continues? Monthly, weekly, daily? And approximately how long will these outages be? We've had outages of 20 minutes and we've had outages of 7 hours.

"In the area" means the entire area of Kensington Ave and Bergen Ave. As with any outdoor construction/work, not everything can be planned to the Tee. Many factors can stop or delay work in the area, such as: freezing weather, cars blocking the work area, personnel shortage, permit expiration, etc.. Due to these multitude of factors, there is no precise date we can provide for project completion. We post every time we are doing a turn off of water at least 48 hours in advance. If for any reason we cannot perform the scheduled work on the actual work night it is rescheduled, then new signs should be posted.
