Description
I know this is a dot issue, but can you contact your point of contact with DOT: in the morning, on the 285 eastbound ramp (not westbound), the alternating red/green are turned on around 2 or 3 mornings per week. These are not needed for 285E in the mornings and are just a nuisance.

The ramp meters are part of an extensive GDOT project to create smoother traffic flow on I-285 by managing traffic entering the system. Because traffic on an on-ramp tends to arrive in large groups of vehicles, it creates shockwaves in traffic flow during congested periods on the highway from many vehicles attempting to merge in a short period of time. The ramp meters cause the merging vehicles to spread out arrivals over a longer period of time, which ultimately reduces stop-start conditions. Basically, you spend a little more time on the on-ramp so that you can spend less total time on I-285.
We will forward your comment to the team of engineers employed by GDOT to manage the system to make sure that this particular signal is operating properly.
