You're supposed to either know or guess what bus goes thru. God forbid if you are one of the thousands of visitors to the Capitol City and the museums and attractions along this corridor.
This is the fourth different time this has been reported. Last time CAT posted a 10-line explanation on how to figure out what bus serves each stop. I agree that the sign labeling is bad, but CAT leadership disagrees. It is not user friendly, and it is lazy. CAT please fix it this time, it will help visitors and unfamiliar riders.
I've referred this to our Public Works Department, Transit Division. When the staff has had a chance to respond I’ll post an update. Thanks for reporting.
Staff is not sure what the question is related to this request? All CAT bus routes serving this corridor stop at this sign? Please feel free to call me at 919-996-4040 or via email at david.eatman@raleighnc.gov so that we may gain additional information regarding your request. Thank you.
What bus routes serve this stop????? This is important for people to know if they want get somewhere. What an insipid question. Don't pass this off to asking us to call someone, explain it in black and white for the record why Raleigh won't post bus routes on signs. I have seen this concern posted many, many times, and I am sure now the City of Raleigh doesn't want to have an answer on the record why they won't tell citizens what bus stops where. It means money for many people. If you can catch one route to your destination, you only have to pay $1, if you have to connect, you have to pay $2. THIS IS A SCAM to give as little information as possible to get riders to pay more money than they may have to.
The request is the same one you've denied multiple times... label the stops with route numbers downtown instead of the misleading label "all routes". CAT has tried to explain the labels in the past, but that is not helpful to unfamiliar riders, and the explanation wasn't straight-forward. People want to know why won't label the stops with route numbers? You can fit plenty of numbers on one sign, every other city does it. Including route names/destinations would be good too, but at the very least label the numbers.
Also, Alli makes a good point about bus fair. There should be a sign on fareboxes that says "One-way $1, Day pass $2, No Transfers". Having clear signs on fareboxes is another thing that practically every bus system except CAT does.
