The Engineering Department has inspected the property and will initiate the review process for a request for maintenance of drainage infrastructure outside the right-of-way. Once the review process is complete the owner will be notified of the results, thank you for your patience.

Subject: Open item concerning debris in drainage ditch next to 3225 Burning Tree Drive.

Request was to clear ditch of dirt and rocks that have accumulated over the years. Ditch is now 25-30% filled in and results in overflow to the point that it floods the crawl space of adjacent houses. The ditch is a right-of-way and the city storm system dumps into it above the area of concern. Therefore, this is not a property owner responsibility as Alabama State law prohibits the dumping of runoff water onto another person’s property. The ditch is concrete lined and the bridge pipes slow the water, causing silt, rocks, debris to settle out.

Met your team that was sent over to look at tree stuck in pipe. I had already cut the tree up and put it next to the street for pick up. Told your workers the work request I sent in was to get the muck out of the ditch, not the tree. They said they would inform the engineers.
