Description

Going back as far as mid December 2019 there has been a persistent and ongoing problem of cars drag racing and speeding at over 80 mph on Strickland Rd between the Creedmoor Rd. intersection and Six Forks Rd. I have called on 3 separate occasions to express my concerns on behalf of myself and neighbors in Wentworth Park subdivision and others along Strickland Rd. The commonly used NextDoor App reflects dozens of posts expressing the same concerns. It is a daily ( and more routinely at night ) occurrence. Almost always on the weekend from around 9:00 pm forward there are cars drag racing and speeding up and down Strickland Rd. I have been witness to this personally after almost being hit pulling out of my subdivision. I have called the RPD and reported the issue with actual license plate numbers, vehicle descriptions and descriptions of the persons driving the vehicle. As an example, on 12/26/2019 two cars were drag racing west on Strickland Rd. One a newer model white BMW 335i with a NC vanity plate of "335i" and a silver/grey Honda with NC license plate PLV7732. The group of individuals engaging in this activity often park at the Home Depot on Strickland Rd after 9:00pm. Again, this is more often occurring starting on Fridays through the weekend but it does routinely happen daily. The issue obviously is the danger posed to not only the drivers of these cars but the general public as well. In addition, the noise from these vehicles is particularly intrusive as most have modified these cars with straight pipe exhausts and other equipment which makes the vehicle backfire with loud popping sounds much like fireworks or gunshots. The speeding has expanded at times to Six Forks Rd ( north and south ) and out to the I-540 interchanges. I would like to respectfully ask that the RPD and pertinent city officials commit to reviewing this worsening problem and set up ways to stop it. Thank you in advance to attending to the issue and I look forward to a positive resolution very soon.

Sincerely,

Craig Adams
