Description

I live adjacent to the Strandberg Preserve open space which is owned by the city. There are new fir tree limbs downed every time there is a storm. Last week was no exception. Some of these are quite large and fall on the understory plants of salal and other shrubs, some or which are alive but mostly dead. There are years and years of accumulated dead limbs, bushes, downed whole trees. Because it is a 'conservancy', it is left alone, but since it is surrounded by residential areas, this is a concern for public safety. It is not a 'healthy' forest.
There is a trail that passes through this sloping area, and it is currently passable. There are many loose snags and branches that hang from the trees above, and leaning trees that are at risk for taking out other trees, structures or people!
