Description

Last night around 8:00PM, a locomotive with about 7-8 railroad cars was sitting, idling, with its nose approximately 1/4 of the way blocking Route 9W.

The crossing gates were down and were flashing.

Many motorists were waiting while the train sat there for approximately 15 minutes and wasn't moving.

Then, suddenly, a few impatient drivers began driving through the crossing gates while they were down and flashing!

It was a very dangerous situation, because all of a sudden the train began moving and somebody could have gotten killed here by the train smashing into them!

I think it should be mandatory that if this type of situation happens again, that a flagperson should be down on the street near the crossing, to take precedence over the crossing gates, in order to direct car traffic so that impatient drivers don't cause someone to get killed here!!
