This is a good idea, not a dumb one. Studies have shown an increase in ridership when real-time updates are given to riders. And MOST bus riders these days have cell phones, so this would be a useful tool to the majority of bus riders. We need to continue to improve our public transit infrastructure, not let it stagnate while we increase fares.

We absolutely need GPS for buses. Not only so passengers know how long they will have to wait, but also to figure out if another bus line will get there before the one they are waiting for.

CT Transit supervisors will be able to see what drivers are late, how long they are taking for breaks, and can start getting rid of the "chronically late" drivers. (I have one every morning who is chronically 5 minutes late, and I think he does it on purpose to make passengers miss their connecting bus (it's always a block ahead and my bus makes no effort to catch up or let the other bus know he's right behind with transfers for the other bus.)

Good news! This is coming in the next 6 months. It's already arrived in Hartford.

The GPS has been installed as you can use Transit app to tack the buses. The card readers are also installed though they do not work...
