I agree and I was part of the group who recommended downtown bike rack locations and recommended them on Pratt.i I don't understand why they didn't go in.

Hmm, interesting. I could see that as being their excuse. One could make a very good case for making Pratt ped-only, which I understand would bring hell fire missiles from some of the businesses, but given that, it wouldn't be hard to make the case for removing just one parking spot to put in a corral.

This type of request should be addressed to your local officials, which can be contacted at 860-757-9560 and propose this to them and they should review it.

Pass the buck to City Council? I think that the Council has already signaled their support policy-wise of bike racks.

If the City Council approved of this, then you can try reaching DPW administration, which can be reached at 860-757-9900 to see if plans are being put to place. At the moment, there is not much information we have regarding this plan.

I found have done some research and Public Works receives requests for installation of city Bike Racks. I have reached out and will follow up with a status on this request.

Public Works has this request and will need to determine budget and timeline to fulfill the request. Stay tuned!!

It was my understanding that there was a cmaq grant associated with crcog that came through in 08 or 09. I helped make a map of where to put them throughout the city. The racks aren't all up, so I'm assuming the grant wasn't fully spent.

Several yrs ago the FTA provided a grant to install bike racks citywide. We purchased and installed over a 100 racks approx. throughout the city. Two types of racks were purchased for installation in sidewalks (concrete) and in parks (in ground). Mostly all the sidewalk ones have been installed. The remaining racks will be used for Tiger (IQuilt project) administered by Development Services. Tiger project runs along Bushnell park onto Asylum st And involves rdwy reconstruction.

We originally field checked locations for installation of racks and did not install any on Pratt because the sidewalk is made of brick pavers and installation would dislodge/break the pavers. That said, we did install racks adjacent to Pratt along Main & Trumbull.

Great chance to install an on-street bike corral in one parking spot. See New Haven, tons of other American cities.

I will make sure to alert Development Services to consider this as a part of the Streetscape project.
