Description
Public trash barrels on Orange St., from Cottage St. to Willow St. are overflowing with garbage and plastic bags full of dog excrement. Aside from being absolutely disgusting and filthy (and making New Haven look like a third world city) these bags are leaking disease ridden fecal waste onto the sidewalks and streets. The even in sub-zero weather, the stench is horrible too.

Also, I for one am glad that dog owners are cleaning up after their pets. I'm tired of them letting their dog poop anywhere and then leaving it for everyone else to smell it and step in it.

WF,
Dogs are beautiful animals and most dog owners I see in the neighborhood are very responsible.
Nevertheless, all dogs harbor coliform bacteria in their guts. Their feces can also transmit salmonella and giardia, roundworm, parvovirus and coronavirus. Some of this stuff can live in the soil for many years.
This isn't just unhealthy for people, its also very unhealthy for dogs who like to sniff (and, sorry, gotta say it, sometimes taste) other dogs poop.
A good dog owner will curb their dog (off homeowners lawns, onto the public rass strip) and pick up after their animal.

GL,
The grass strip isn't my point but its germane because, responsible behavior IS my point. When I walk a dog and pick up after it, I don't balance the waste bag precariously on top of a full trash barrel. I bring it home and dispose of it.
BTW, I didn't offer advice, I was paraphrasing the law. Dog walkers are supposed to stay off private property and they're supposed to pick up after their dogs.
